It makes some sense that Almodovar runs the show like a cagey veteran as he’s yet another sophomore who saw significant time a season ago as a freshman. Despite not scoring a point until the final minute, he impressed throughout this game with his advanced ability to control the pace of the game and put teammates in positions to succeed. Almodovar racked up 6 assists while consistently keeping the ball moving, particularly looking to get it up the floor quickly in transition. He was efficient getting to his spots off the dribble while surveying for cutters or shooters. There’s a slight tendency to force passes that aren’t there, as he has to find more consistent means of threatening defenses as a scorer, but Almodovar’s ability to run a team really stands out in an era full of lower-IQ score-first guards.
