Gio Horton Gio Horton 5'11" | SG Apple Valley | 2029 State MN – The 2029 Apple Valley six-foot guard scored 20 in Sizzle MHC’s afternoon Saturday win in Baltimore at Made Hoops Summer Live Finale. Horton buried multiple 3-pointers in the first half and another in the 2nd half. Horton’s spot-up ability off the ball makes him so dangerous for defenses and then when Horton takes over the ball handling responsibilities he puts pressure on the defense driving.

Gio Horton – The 2029 six-foot Apple Valley guard knocked down three 3-pointers in the spot-up fashion for Sizzle MHC. Horton playing as a primary ball handler and secondary made plays off the dribble to dashing forwards and BIGs around the rim.

Horton did very well to stay ready for passes on the perimeter and hitting movement 3-pointers. When he took over the primary ball handling duties at times he used his quick first step to get to the mid-range for quality open looks.

Gio Horton Gio Horton 5'11" | SG Apple Valley | 2029 State MN – Last week Horton hit 48 points in an AAU game at The Tune-Up Minnesota, this week playing with Sizzle MHC in Philadelphia the 2029 Apple Valley guard is proving he’s a big shot maker. In the first half alone Horton buried three pull-up 3-pointers and showed ability to hit in the mid-range off the dribble as well. Horton is a mature shot creator at his age on the perimeter. This ability kept up in the 2nd half and even opened up the floor for drives all the way to the basket for a lay-up as well.

Falcons this weekend were without their lead ball handler Cupito which Horton shows off his spot-up abilities playing off of, which still on display this weekend, Horton showcased more ball in his hands capabilities. Combined with his outside shooting, Horton can create his own shots very easily. Against Hoop Habits UA Horton played at a fast pace and scored from the perimeter and went to the rim. In a game against Fury Komp Horton put up an incredible 48 points.

Gio is coming off a freshman season where he played consistent varsity minutes for a Class AAAA state tournament team. That experience has paid off as things just look easy for him at the 15u level. In a matchup against a talented Gain Elite squad, defenders simply had no answer for Gio. Sag off and he would pull up and torch you from three. Get up tight and he has the quickness and shifty handle to blow by you and get into the lane. He’s not just a scorer either as Gio was constantly locating open shooters with kick-out passes that found them right in the hands.

Gio put on a scoring clinic in both games that I watched on day two, possibly looking like the best guard in Minnesota’s freshman class. He’s coming off of a deep state playoff run with Apple Valley and you can tell his feel and experience is above the age group he is playing. He was scoring from all three levels, being automatic on step back jumpers from three. Horton is super quick and is also a crafty finisher inside, drawing a lot of fouls as well.

Gio is coming off of a productive freshman season with Class 4A runner-up Apple Valley, looking more than ready to step into an expanded role next year. The 5’11” guard was a microwave scorer this past weekend, taking over at points in the games I watched. He was tough to stay in front of with the ball in his hands, forcing defenders to play up on him due to his shooting presence. Horton was getting buckets from inside and outside, making it look easy playing up.
