The quickest turnaround for any player at the event, Headings and Pickerington Central just played their state championship game last week in the nightcap. Headings looked fresh and ready to go on Saturday morning by using his size around the rim to throw down numerous alley-oop dunks in transition. Headings also got his hands on a lot of loose balls and was active on the offensive glass. If Headings can put his skills together, this is a talented prospect who can do things few available 2023 prospects his size can at the offensive end.

Another prospect that Rio Grande offered in the summer, Headings is already a one-time state champion and looking to make it twice this March. One of the more versatile forward prospects in the state, Headings has a lot of perimeter skill for a prospect his size. With the ability to attack a closeout, hit a pull-up jumper and make a skip pass, Headings does a lot of things offensively at 6’7, 6’8. A scholarship level talent, we’ll see what programs jump in the mix late. College programs can catch Headings in the regional semifinals on Thursday at Ohio Dominican University.

While the final result wasn’t what Pickerington Central wanted, Headings was a major positive with how he played against an experienced frontcourt of Indy Cathedral (IN). Headings scored around the basket and made some turnaround jumpers to show off his versatility. Few available forwards in the 2023 class can put it on the floor and shoot like Headings and while only holding one offer from Rio Grade, I expect that number to rise before the end of his senior season.

Headings is a mismatch at 6’8 with the skills to put it on the floor and simply shoot over smaller defenders. That’s exactly what Headings did for a couple minute stretch where he started just nailing fadeaway jumpers over a shorter defender each time down the court. Headings is a modern day forward who has the ball handling skills to beat players off the dribble and create for himself or others. After winning a state title as a Junior, Headings and the rest of Pickerington Central are ready to defend their crown in 2022-23.

Headings was a prospect who I couldn’t believe didn’t have any offers but finally Rio Grande pulled the trigger on the modern 6’8 forward. Headings moves well for his size, can shoot it from the outside and puts it on the floor. Headings needs to work on consistency because when he’s on, there’s few players as talented in the state. Headings also continuing to hit the weight room to bulk up for the college level will help him get on the floor earlier. I’m intrigued by the skill-set that Headings has and should pick up a lot more interest on the defending state champion Pickerington Central Tigers.
