Maybe the prospect who made the most noise in any early morning game all weekend, Norton had his first and second career 20+ point games for Taft in a three day span. After dropping 25 points in a blowout over Aiken, Norton shot the lights out against Brush for five 3-pointers and 22 points. Norton has solid size and athleticism from the wing guard position and is getting recruited by Division III programs while also getting looks from scholarship programs as well. If you are looking for a wing guard who can knock down open shots, provide some passing ability and some athletic pop then Norton might be the guy for you.
Highlights
Saint Ignatius had the most impressive team performance out of any team all weekend with their dismantling of Huntington Prep. Szczepaniak was the beneficiary of some great passing and ball movement and finished a bunch of easy layups around the basket. With a younger roster, Szczepaniak provides valuable experience and leadership to his team and doesn’t try and do too much out there. He didn’t force anything and ended up as one of the leading scorers in the victory on great efficiency.
Centerville was another Ohio squad who pulled off an upset of a prep powerhouse and defeat So Cal Academy (CA) for a second straight season. Njie played a solid game by rebounding and finishing around the basket. So Cal Academy was much bigger than the Elks but Njie did a good job of competing on the glass and was a key reason why they were able to come out on top.
Lima Sr had a dominant victory over Springboro and Moore was a key reason why the Spartans looked so dominant. Lima Sr was fericious defensively and Moore forced turnovers with his activity and length. I was also impressed with how he shot the ball from the outside, as Moore made more jumpers than I’ve previously ever seen him connect on. Moore and Lima Sr are trying to get things to click after an up and down start to their season, the Spartans are hoping to prove that northwest Ohio still runs through Lima at the Division I level once again during the playoffs.
While the final result wasn’t what Pickerington Central wanted, Headings was a major positive with how he played against an experienced frontcourt of Indy Cathedral (IN). Headings scored around the basket and made some turnaround jumpers to show off his versatility. Few available forwards in the 2023 class can put it on the floor and shoot like Headings and while only holding one offer from Rio Grade, I expect that number to rise before the end of his senior season.
