One of the highest upside players at the event, Provitt was active in the paint at both ends of the court. His size gave him a rebounding advantage against most players at the event and his athleticism allowed him to throw down some dunks and block some shots. I also got to see a few ball handling flashes as well from Provitt. A raw post player but one with tremendous upside, Provitt would be best served by redshirting at a four-year program or looking at post grad and JUCO options, Provitt is a prospect who could be really, really good in a few years.
Burkholder has had an excellent past few months, leading Newark to a district title and showing out at this event. A traditional point guard in every sense of the term, Burkholder did a great job getting his teammates involved despite this being a showcase event with players from all over the state. When he did look to score, Burkholder was efficient from the outside with his pull-up jumper. A guy who flat out helps you win, Burkholder should be an impact player at the Division III level early in his career.
The quickest turnaround for any player at the event, Headings and Pickerington Central just played their state championship game last week in the nightcap. Headings looked fresh and ready to go on Saturday morning by using his size around the rim to throw down numerous alley-oop dunks in transition. Headings also got his hands on a lot of loose balls and was active on the offensive glass. If Headings can put his skills together, this is a talented prospect who can do things few available 2023 prospects his size can at the offensive end.
Scott was one of the more efficient players at this event, using his size advantage in the paint to score on the guards that tried to defend him. A good shooter from the outside, Scott has good versatility on the offensive end. With solid physical tools defensively, Scott has the potential to be an impact defender at the next level. I liked what I saw from Scott after not getting the chance to see him during his senior season with Bishop Watterson.
Meany was one of the top scorers from the event, a relentless attacker of the rim with his off the bounce game. With good burst from a triple threat and a variety of dribble moves he can use, it’s tough to stay in front of Meany when he’s attacking downhill. Combine that with his impressive 3-point shooting ability and there’s a lot of microwave scoring ability in the 6’0 combo guard. Currently receiving interest from a few Division III and JUCO programs, Meany certainly raised his stock on Saturday morning with an impressive performance.
