Bishop Ready is unbeaten, and a majority of the reason why is their senior trio of Schaffer, Ruth and Russell. A skilled and strong forward, Schaffer is a good outside shooter with the skill to attack you off the bounce as well. Schaffer has taken visits to numerous strong Division III programs in Wittenberg, Capital, Otterbein and Heidelberg and also received an offer from Rio Grande University in the summer. I believe Schaffer would be an instant impact player at the Division III level and could play at a scholarship level as well. Catch Schaffer and he tries to help Bishop Ready compete the perfect season with a state championship, he plays at the Convocation Center in Athens on Thursday.
Highlights
Another prospect that Rio Grande offered in the summer, Headings is already a one-time state champion and looking to make it twice this March. One of the more versatile forward prospects in the state, Headings has a lot of perimeter skill for a prospect his size. With the ability to attack a closeout, hit a pull-up jumper and make a skip pass, Headings does a lot of things offensively at 6’7, 6’8. A scholarship level talent, we’ll see what programs jump in the mix late. College programs can catch Headings in the regional semifinals on Thursday at Ohio Dominican University.
Johnson is a prospect who has a lot of athletic upside and has been a contributor for a Lutheran East squad with state title aspirations the past two seasons. Johnson has accepted his role as an energy big who crashes the glass hard for offensive rebounds and looks to throw down on defenders heads in transition. Small college programs should look at Johnson as an option to get more athletic in their frontcourt with a high energy forward. Catch Johnson in action in the regional semifinals at the Canton Civic Center on Wednesday.
Young was a standout on the prep hoops circuit this summer and has unique shot-making ability for his size. Young ran some point guard for his high school team, showing off what he can do with the ball in his hands, but he’s at his best when he’s spotting up and spacing the floor. Young is a good option for small college programs looking for a guy with size who can also shoot it from the outside. Young was recently offered by Knox College in Illinois.
Hathcock had a productive senior season, winning all conference honors in the Dayton city league. Another standout from the prep hoops circuit this summer, Hathcock scores the ball at will in the paint. Plays hard, good body and tough rebounder, Hathcock is going to do the dirty work at the next level, another good option for college programs still looking to add some size to their 2023 class. Hathcock received an offer from Concordia University of Ann Arbor in January.
