I’ll admit that Mitchner Jr.’s game sometimes isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing in the gym, but I don’t know how many times I’ve seen him play and completely dominate the game. The 6-foot-3 guard consistently burrows his way into the paint with his strength and ball-handling ability, and he has a knack for finishing with little floaters and jumpers inside the paint—he has awesome touch. Additionally, he has great passing instincts, though those are a little less present in a showcase environment like yesterday’s. Mitchner Jr. probably doesn’t have the size that some scholarship schools are looking for, but he’s as solid as they come and always plays up to his opponent.

+11 (#66 to #55)
Mitchner, a guard out of Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts, jumped 11 spots to finish at #55 in the rankings. The 6’3″ guard has some real wiggle off the bounce, does a nice job of playing off of hesitations, and knows how to mix up his speeds in the half-court. As a scorer, he uses his length to his advantage around the rim, elevates quickly into his mid-range jumper, and does a nice job of knocking down shots in catch and shoot situations. He has good feel as a creator and is able to deliver passes on time and on target with touch. Defensively, he’s disruptive at the point of attack and makes a lot of plays in passing lanes. He remains undecided on his college destination.

and doesn’t necessarily play with too much flash, but boy does he get the job done. The 6-foot-3 senior gets into the paint at will with decisive, straight-line dribble moves, and his three-level scoring ability makes him a threat from everywhere on the court. Mitchner also makes excellent reads off of two feet at the rim and has some awesome finishing chops. He isn’t flashy, but he’s one of the more efficient and effective players in the region, as he showed during Wednesday’s loss to Cheshire.

+59 (#113 to #54)
Mitchner, a guard out of Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts, rose 59 spots in this update and now sits at #66 overall. Mitchner has gotten a lot of press from us lately due to offensive versatility and ability to impact winning, A bigger guard, he does a nice job of consistently making the right play, can be impactful on the offensive end of the floor without scorer, and has the ability to be a stopper on the other end of the floor. He rarely turns the ball over, can score over size in the paint with touch, and does a great job of pushing the pace in transition.

A true floor general who can score from all three levels. He can slice the defense up off the dribble, with phenomal passing skills. A cerebral player who gets open for his teammates setting up high efficient shots after he makes the 1 more or 2nd pass. A good get for any college. After my first time watching I can see him only getting better because he works hard on both ends. This player is elusive with or without the ball. Plays through contact and is a great second option offensively. Evan has D1 interest from many leagues/teams.

or maybe it’s due to his lack of flash. Regardless, the senior gets the job done for Lawrence Academy and continues to wow me with his composure and consistency. The 6-foot-3 guard can get into the lane at will and always gets onto two feet, so he makes patient, under control decisions at all times. He can also knock down shots from the perimeter and score when he needs to, and he’s able to play with or without the ball. Mitchner Jr. might Be Lawrence Academy’s second best player, and they’ll be playing in some pretty massive games this season if I had to guess, so his recruitment should pick up.

Mitchner Jr. always impresses me with his ability to run the show for Lawrence Academy. The 6-foot-3 point guard is so good in transition; he’s always scanning the defense for passing angles but can keep the ball for finishes at the rim if the defense doesn’t stop the ball. He has the perfect balance of creating and scoring. In the half court, he’s really quick off the dribble and uses his size to see passes over other guards. I could imagine him playing at the scholarship level. He’s a smart player who will definitely be a key cog for Lawrence this season and will have a chance to majorly improve his stock with the number of eyes on this team.

Mitchner is so solid with the ball. He’s controlled, compact with his dribble, and an excellent decision maker. In the first half, he had a field day getting into the paint and kicking out to shooters on the perimeter. He also found success from beyond the three-point line and had a couple nice drives to the rim. The junior got a taste of one of the best defenders in New England (

Mitchner thrives with the ball in his hands. He does a great job steering the ship and setting others up for success on the offensive end. Mitchner is becoming more of a threat from the behind the arc and if isn’t game planned for he can explode from deep. He has great command of the gears he can play at and picks and chooses which speeds to play at. Mitchner fills the stat sheet with his play. He finds ways to stay productive in the game.

is an athletic ball-handling guard with a diverse offensive profile. He can get to the cup with ease with high-octane jet burners and yet finish with grace on his drives with good deceleration. Mitchner is comfortable shooting off the bounce from three, with a repeatable and fluid form. He is also a good shooter off the ball and cannot be left open at any time. Mitchner is a very good rebounder for his position, fighting for boards on the defensive glass and leading his team in transition. He is also a pesky on-ball defender, racking up steals with quick and unpredictable hands. Mitchner can bring a lot of value to any program with his athleticism, effort, and creativity on the offensive end.
