Caleb Baker Caleb Baker Caleb Baker 6'6" | SG Lawrence Academy | 2027 State New E is the rare offensive standout who doesn’t need the ball to succeed. The 6-foot-6 wing has an incredible knack for cutting to the rim—whether it be on baseline or in the slot—and he’s a fantastic above-the-rim finisher once he touches the paint. He takes contact well, and he’s not afraid to get hit and still finish the rock. Baker is one of House We Built’s most consistent players and is a fantastic piece to any offense because of his ability to play without the ball off of others. This year, though, the rising senior should have a larger role at Lawrence Academy with some of the guys who graduated and will be able to show off some more facilitating and on-ball scoring ability.

Baker found different ways to score the basketball in the game I saw of his. Baker was great on the attack and sought out contact which allowed for him to have the opportunity to have free chances at the foul line. Thought Baker was in good spots on the floor to find rebounds throughout the contest. I like the way he moves without the basketball. He sacrificed his body for the good of the team by taking charges.

Baker took his talents to House We Built’s HGSL squad this spring, and it’s paying off for him. He has the ball in his hands a bunch and has showcased an extremely well-rounded offensive game, with some more passing and scoring chops than we get to see from him at Lawrence Academy. The 6-foot-6 wing does an amazing job leaking out and finishing in transition (often above the rim), but he also uses his cerebral handle to get to his spots in the mid range and rise up for jumpers in the half court. His passing, though, has probably been the biggest improvement I’ve seen from him this spring, which will be something he can lean into even more with increased on-ball reps at Lawrence next year.

Baker is as smooth as they come. The 6-foot-6 wing is long and wiry and also has some athletic pop when he gets going to the rim in transition. He has awesome body control and footwork on takes to the rim and is relentless when attacking even against tough defense. He had some struggles early in a game against Milton Academy and got noticeably frustrated, but he responded very well in the second half and showed some awesome fight and toughness. He’s so skilled with both hands, he’s athletic, and he could still be growing — looks like a scholarship prospect to me, especially once he gets the mental side figured out.

A 6’5″ wing for Lawrence Academy, Baker impressed with his developed skill. Previously a standout due to his athleticism, he did a nice job of making decisions and plays with the ball in his hands, showing the ability to operate as a secondary playmaker in the half-court. He still flashes with his athleticism, making high level plays as a slasher and on the offensive glass, but also shows a slower gear that allows him to play with poise and patience against a set defense. He looks taller and his frame is more filled out, which only raises his ability on the defensive end of the floor where he has the ability to guard twos through fours while making plays in passing lanes that lead to scoring opportunities in transition. He has scholarship level physical gifts and continues to expand his offense game each time out, a combination that should lead to wide ranging college interest in the near future.

Baker did a nice job scrapping points together on the offensive end. He has good timing and reads and reacts to plays on the fly. Baker has a nice blend of size and length and uses that to his advantage on either end of the floor. He isn’t a speed merchant but he doesn’t let that define his play and gives off a “quick slow” vibe. Baker is a prospect who should be on radar of scholarship programs, with the upside to be a division one prospect.

Baker, a member of the 16U 3SSB squad, is an impressive perimeter athlete out of Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts. A hard playing wing, he uses his physical gifts to his advantage on both ends of the floor, allowing him to make a real two-way impact. His defensive versatility stands out as he moves well laterally when guarding the ball, has good instincts and burst to make plays in passing lanes, and even offers shot blocking from the help side. Offensively, he’s really good as a cutter off the ball, showing the IQ of when to make his way to the rim and the skill and strength needed to finish in the paint over, around, and through size. An injury cut short his sophomore season this winter, but he finally looks like he’s shaking off the rust and is back to playing some really good basketball.

One of a few new pieces joining an established core of BABC 2027’s, Baker looks to be fitting right in if his play in Sunday’s championship game was any indication. A smooth wing with good size and fluid athleticism, he was effective and efficient in transition and the halfcourt, operating as both a scorer and connector. He spaces the floor with a smooth high-release jumper out to the arc, subsequently drawing closeouts which he attacks with his head up scanning for the next pass. Baker provides a live body defensively on the wing with the potential to make more of an impact on that end as he adds strength to a lithe frame. His plug-and-play skillset on the wing should draw interest up to the D1 level in the years to come.
