Emmett is such a versatile player that it is hard to pinpoint one thing that stands out. He moves supremely well on the defensive end, guarding players from the perimeter to the rim. He rebounds well at 6’9, has superb awareness and passing ability. He can use strength at the rim or spot up from three and is efficient with his touches. Marquardt put all of this on display throughout the tournament and was a big contributor filling up the box score.

Marquardt didn’t get a ton of run last season but when he did, his potential was clear. He’s a big kid who can stroke the long ball, and this summer he showed an increased physicality and aggression that should make him a key part of Garfield’s 2022-23 season. He’s a guy who can hit from outside, bury tough shots at the rim, and play strong defense, blocking shots and snatching down rebounds. If he continues his solid summer play, Garfield will look unstoppable with their height and skill in the frontcourt.

Marquardt spends most of his time inside but in transition, he’s the perfect trail. He can finish at the rim but also stop his run at the arc with defenders sucked inside, and hit the three with ease. He’s a tough player to account for with his ability to spot up in transition and nail the three with high efficiency.

Previous Rank: #44 — The 6-foot-9 big man from Garfield was one of our biggest risers from our latest 23′ update after performing admirably over the AAU season with ECBA. He brought tons of physicality and oftentimes dominated other high caliber bigs with his presence. He’s a highly competitive player and won’t turn down a challenge. A major factor on the boards and tough to break down on the defensive end, he also brings some upside on offense as a powerful finisher and that part of his game figures to be showcased more with the Bulldogs this coming season, as Garfield used 6’7 sharpshooter Kenzel Massey (22′, NKTC) in place of him more often than not last season.

No. 1 | Marquardt didn’t get much run in the last high school season but based on what he’s done this summer, he should be an excellent secondary scorer and floor spacer for the Bulldogs. He adds even more size to an already big Garfield team and can plug the middle while providing versatility on the offensive end. He has put up some big numbers this summer and is primed to breakout in the Metro 3A.

Marquardt’s X-factor is how he puts together size, strength, and touch to dominate from the paint to the three-point line. There are certainly bigs with his size that can step out every once in a while to hit the trey ball but there are very few who can operate with the same effectiveness as Marquardt inside and out. While many stretch forwards lack the strength to be a factor inside, Marquardt actually thrives on his strength and is a strong defender at the rim. His size and skill make him a threat all over the court and on both sides of the ball. That is why he’s one of the best of the summer.
