Call it a recency bias but after watching Smith shoot the cover off the ball in a win over Montgomery County made me realize how undervalued he is. Drew is a top notch shooter at 43% from three and he can get a shot off super quickly. Drew is not the biggest defender but he battles for position and can switch onto bigger players and holds up.

Smith is comfortable shooting from several feet beyond the arc and does an excellent job getting his body and feet set. He can stop on a dime and pull up with balance, consistently converting from deep in both spot-up and off-the-dribble situations.

Smith is a crafty scorer and playmaker. He is a knockdown shooter from beyond the arc. If the defense takes away his shot, he can finish through contact around the basket. His vision and passing ability create open looks for his teammates.

Drew is having a big AAU season and after transferring from Boyd County to Ashland last week, he figures to put up more impressive numbers in the high school season. Smith should move out of the shadow of Jacob Spurlock Jacob Spurlock 6'4" | SG Boyd County | 2026 State KY and have a bigger role for the Tomcats than what he had at Boyd.
