Dayton Forsythe

The main attraction for the Pirates finished with 23 points, largely boosted by a perfect 10 of 10 from the line. He’s a foul drawing machine, with great hesitation, ball fakes and movements to get defenders to bite. The senior is closing out one of the more illustrious careers in Oklahoma with this attempt to win a third straight Gold Ball. But even with the accolades under his belt, and a future in Norman, he’s still staying true to his blue collar ways. In the first quarter, he dove out of bounds to save a loose ball, crashing over media row. He was fine despite the tumble, and the play he made led to a three for his little brother, Denton.

Forsythe retains the top spot in the rankings, as he continues to be a winning player who is carving out an impressive resume at the high school level. He’s a do it all guard for his Pirates, rebounding like a mad man when they play bigger competition, a great set up man and always capable of scoring the tough bucket. The senior has also continued to become bouncier, as he’s regularly rocking the rims in transition. It’s hard to find a hole in his game, especially with his now lethal shooting ability off the dribble.
Dale has started the playoffs on fire, as the favorites to claim the Class 2A crown for the third straight year. It would be a strong ending to an almost storybook like run for Forsythe.

showed why he is the #1 ranked player in the state and is committed to the University of Oklahoma. He is a phenomenal two-way player that has a non stop motor. He showed the ability to slither through traffic and finish at the rim with an arrange of finishing moves. Contact did not faze him, as he brushed it off regularly. Not only was he able to finish at the rim, he showed the ability to knock down difficult shots. These shots were an arrange of both mid-range and three pointers. He led his team in scoring. On defense, he came away with one steal after another. I lost count of how many steals he had, but I would guess that it was probably eight. Fighting for loose balls and the rebound was not a problem for him, as he would come away with these balls time after time. It was a remarkable performance against the #12 team in the class.

Forsythe is a very explosive guy, and it doesn’t make a difference if he is trying to go to the basket or pulling up from the three-point line. He consistently plays with toughness and competes on every single play. Throughout the weekend when he couldn’t hit shots, he put pressure on the defense and was able to get to the free-throw line. Majority of games he is expected to play the entire game and does a great job of never taking plays off on either side of the basketball game.

Forsythe closed out his two year run at the Tournament of Champions with a three point shooting show in the first quarter. After that explosive scoring start, he was a bit quieter offensively but continued to manage the game. As he seemed to reserve a lot of his energy for defense where he was needed to rebound against a big Crossings frontline. He’s an outstanding contested rebounder for a guard at the high school level, often grabbing and securing big boy rebounds. Forsythe finished with another double-double, 19 points and 11 rebounds. And left a lasting two year impression on the prestigious Tournament of Champions.

Forysthe set the tone early in the contest, with a slam shortly after the opening tip. Then a three quickly after. But it would be hard sledding for the senior following that. Owasso’s size, verticality principles and the waves of defenders they threw at him slowed down the Dale star. But he still found a way to score, like a running back grinding out the yards he found ways to the free throw line. Over and over. He would score 23 of his 33 points at the line. What was shocking is that he only had one assist, because he routinely made the right play after play and fired some amazing passes to open teammates. A poor shooting day from three was the only black mark on a tough as nails performance from Forsythe.

The Sooner signee had 28 points. He’s lethal off the dribble, lulling defenders to sleep to drain deep threes or mid-range shots over them. Or he simply goes by them, as he’s also a master at drawing fouls and playing through contact. Throw in some great passing and he consistently makes basketball look easy.
Forsyth even closed out the game, by breaking the press and throwing it down for an exclamation point. It’s another complete performance for the state’s top senior prospect. And another chapter in the growing small town legend that is Forsythe and his crew of winning Pirates.

After a 49 point performance to cap off the tournament and a dominating week overall, Forysthe took home MVP honors for the event. His game continues to ascend as along with his improved athleticism, he’s become possibly the best off the dribble shooter in the state. He consistently drained deep threes over the out stretched arms of defenders. His improved shooting off ball screens or simply pulling when given daylight has made his driving game all the more dangerous.
When needed, he can take over games as a scorer, but he always keeps his point guard hat on. Evidence of that is when he fed teammate

for a late go ahead score in regulation. The game often flows through Forysthe, and the unselfish senior star often lets it flow right back out to his teammates. Which allows the Pirates to play as one.

Forsythe is a complete point guard who has guided Dale to back-to-back Class 2A State Titles. This impressive run has included wins over programs from bigger classes, including becoming the first “Small Town” program since 1978 to win Oklahoma’s most prestigious in season tournament, the Tournament of Champions. Committed to the University of Oklahoma, the senior guard is a lethal off the dribble shooter, has outstanding floor vision, is capable of finishing above the rim and always plays at his own pace.

It should be no shock that the state’s top prospect makes the first team, as Forsythe has guided Dale to back to back Class 2A titles. And at the time of publishing, he has the Pirates on a 40 game winning streak, which includes taking down bigger programs at the Tournament of Champions last December. Now the do-it-all senior guard is looking more explosive and is already adding to his impressive resume as one of Oklahoma’s top high school players of the last decade.
