Expert Analysis
Sam Duren | Prep Hoops Scout
Beltz closed out 5 on 5 play for the 2029s with a sizzling shooting performance. Nailed pull up threes and 15-18 footers with ease. Especially as he has quality handles to creates space to get off his shot. Impressively for a ball dominant guard, he had signs of being a savvy off the ball shooters as well. One time, he got off the ball and quickly relocated for a spot up opportunity, that he nailed. And hit a three as a trailer in transition.

There weren’t too many players that went harder than Carter! Even when his team looked over matched Carter definitely didn’t get that vibe as he continued to get buckets and punish defenders. As mentioned before, Carter and his twin brother Cooper will be one of the best back court duos in Oklahoma if they can continue to excel.

Carter is a long, speedy forward that is incredibly active on both sides of the ball and seems to be involved on every play for his squad when he’s in the game. He’s a master at picking off opposing passing lanes and taking it the distance for easy buckets. His ballhandling ability is extremely impressive and he consistently creates instant offense off his drives and a quick first step on his opponents. He’s scrappy in the paint on both ends when cleaning the glass and regularly comes up with additional opportunities at the rim. He’s creative in the air with how he uses the glass and alters his plans nicely to give himself virtually un-blockable looks. He has impressive burst vertically and he’s constantly communicating on the court. Beltz is going to be turning plenty of heads with his play and he’s absolutely one to keep on the radar.

Carter Beltz was a force in transition, consistently leaking out and outrunning defenders to the rim. His awareness allowed him to find the strong-side corner, perfectly positioning himself for open catch-and-shoot opportunities. With the ball in his hands, Beltz showcased shifty and elusive handles, using sharp footwork to navigate his way to the basket. His low, controlled stance with every dribble made him difficult to contain, often drawing fouls and earning trips to the line. In the half-court, he displayed excellent stride-stop footwork, frequently using it to create space for smooth turnaround jumpers in the mid-range or paint. His scoring versatility and offensive intelligence made him a reliable contributor in any offensive setting.

was one of, if not the, best full-court defenders across both divisions at the NEXT Oklahoma State Tournament. Picking up opponents off of in-bounds throughout the whole weekend, Carter applied great pressure and forced several turn-overs the entire time that he was on the court. He is a very quick guard with great feel for the game. Wreaking havoc in passing-lanes was what jumped out to me about Carter’s game. He makes smart reads and his motor is non-stop. Empire 2029 did a great job defensively as a team, but Carter set the tone by never slowing down and forcing opponents into mistakes constantly.
