With his high school coach making the trip to cheer him

on from the sidelines, Burton had a big impact for Bates Fundamentals with his activity in the full court press. Bates Fundamentals seemed to find a rhythm late with a trapping defense that was led by Burton’s quick hands and ball pressure. Burton also opened the game with a pickpocket steal and breakaway layup and overall was active looking for his shot or to set a teammate up. I think Burton is a prime candidate to breakout as a junior with Lima Sr and performances like this against top talent show he’s ready to make a big splash for the Spartans in the winter.

Burton is an elite defender who can pick up full court and apply relentless pressure to whoever he’s guarding. He’s a great athlete with the physicality and strength to make life difficult for any opposing guard. At Lima Senior this season, he’s going to be a major problem on the defensive end of the floor. His toughness and energy give him the ability to change the momentum of a game, and I think he’s poised to break out in a big way.

It seems like the city of Lima produces talented guards at an extremely high rate and Burton is next in line. A strong slashing guard who wants to use his strength to bounce off defenders in the lane, Burton is tough to stop because of his ability to change directions and stay on balance. Able to score out of isolation situations, Burton was valuable for All Ohio Red as a guy who could make something happen late in a shot clock situation. Burton has already really impressed me with his mid-range pull-up ability and I’ll be looking for him to expand his range beyond the 3-point arc consistently this winter to take his offensive game to the next level.

Burton was aggressive in the game I caught by getting to the paint and playing on balance, finding a lot of shots in the 5-10 foot range. Burton is a quick but compact guard who is tough to move off his spots and uses pivots and pump fakes to get open. Continuing to produce on an EYBL squad is one way to get us to notice your game and Burton will make his debut in our rankings during our post summer update.

After falling behind big early Burton helped spark a comeback where All Ohio Red made it a one possession game before falling in the final minute. Another strong guard, Burton is physical on both ends of the court and does a nice job of playing on balance after shaking off defenders. Burton turned defense into offense with a few steals that turned into layups and also knocked down a couple pull-up jumpers. The Lima area is always a basketball hotbed for talent and Burton is another young stud to watch from the bean town.

Burton is relentless. He plays the game with his hair on fire. He applies constant pressure to the ball handler. He picks you up full court and makes you work to bring it up. He is a smart and physical defender. He is an active player on both ends. He knows his role on the offensive end and doesn’t force. He gets to the rim and finishes it or makes the correct dump-off pass.

Burton is a freshman who is a solid player with great foundations to build off. He has a good size and ability score. He has great energy on the court and seems to really enjoy playing the game. He is a get-to-the-rim first player but has a good ability to not really force it. He has a great potential to be a lockdown guard defender who can switch onto a big if need be. He shows it already that he will lock anyone down.
