It might also play a key role in the Longmont boys basketball team repeating as Class 4A state champions in Colorado.
To this point, Prep Hoops Colorado’s 70th-ranked senior has been in contact with several high-academic, Division-III schools. Those schools include Macalester College, Grinnell College, Carleton College and the University of Puget Sound. There will almost certainly be more, so long as Page keeps playing the way he has been.
“They’re telling me they want me to shoot,” Page said. “I’ve been in contact with a few schools but nothing major yet. I’m just trying to play the best I can and hope that I get an opportunity somewhere.”
So far in his senior season, Page is leading the defending Class 4A Colorado state champions with 13.4 points per game. He’s also averaging 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists. His biggest contributions to the Trojans’ efforts come from behind the 3-point line, where he is shooting 39 percent (35 for 89), and on the perimeter defensively, where he averages 1.1 steals per game.
Page is 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, and has the size and strength to both play physical defense and score in the painted area. The shooting guard-small forward combo wing boasts a season-high 22 points against Broomfield on Dec. 1 and has scored double figures in all but four of the Trojans’ games. He’s also a key piece of one of Colorado best defensive teams, an undefeated group that has held its first 15 opponents to an average of 41.5 points and has outscored its first 15 opponents by an average margin of 26 points.
Though Page’s recruitment is beginning to pick up and the time has arrived for the senior to start thinking about his future in basketball, he remains focused on helping the Longmont Trojans win another state title.
“Obviously we won last year, but we’re going into this season with the mindset that instead of defending our title, we’re pursuing another one,” Page said after a win over Silver Creek on Jan. 9. “We just want to go out there, take it a game at a time and hopefully get back to the championship game.”
