District Tournament Previews: 10th Region
The postseason is finally upon us and the Road to Rupp Arena starts this week. The amount of schools in the postseason will be cut down to 128 once the district rounds are complete. Only district champions and runners-up move on to regional tournaments and there are sure to be several upsets this week. As we continue with our postseason previews, we move to the Tenth region where there are several teams are serious contenders to make the trip to Rupp. Here’s a district by district breakdown of the match-ups:
37th District (Games played at Campbell County):
The 37th is a 5 team district but the opener is Calvary Christian taking on Silver Grove. Silver Grove has already lost to Calvary Christian by 50 points or more twice. With those results, you have to expect that Calvary Christian is going to beat Silver Grove a third time and advance to take on Campbell county on Wednesday night. Campbell County beat Calvary Christian by 39 in their lone regular season game so it looks good for Campbell to advance to the championship.
The other semifinal features defending regional champion Scott taking on Bishop Brossart. Scott and Brossart faced off once in the regular season and Scott handled them by 27 so they should be heavily favored in the rematch in the district semifinals.
38th District (Games played at Pendleton County):
Action starts on Tuesday night with Harrison County and Nicholas County squaring off in the first semifinal. Harrison won the only previous match-up but it was only a 2 point win and was way back in December. This particular semifinal should be a close one.
The second semifinal takes place on Wednesday night and the host Pendleton County Wildcats go up against Robertson County. Pendleton beat Robertson by 27 in their only regular season game. Pendleton will be heavily favored to beat Robertson again and advance to the championship game.
39th District (Games played at Mason County):
Monday night the semifinals start with Mason County hosting Augusta at the Fieldhouse. The two teams have actually not played this season and will be meeting for the first time on Monday night.
Tuesday the second semifinal tips with St. Patrick taking on Bracken County. St. Patrick and Bracken also haven’t played yet this season. Bracken only went 4-23 this season while St.Patrick has been competitive most of the season and should be expected to win this one and make the regional tournament.
40th District (Games played at Montgomery County):
Both semifinals take place on Tuesday night. The first game will be regional favorites George Rogers Clark going up against Bourbon County for the 3rd time. GRC defeated Bourbon by 35 the first meeting but only by 4 the second time around. This third contest should be a good chance for GRC to reinforce their status as region favorites.
The second semifinal will be Montgomery County taking on Paris. Paris has beaten Montgomery by 15+ each of the first two times they played this season and it’s likely to be a similar result in the third meeting.
Predictions:
Champions: Campbell County, Pendleton County, Mason County, George Rogers Clark
Runners-Up: Scott, Nicholas County, St. Patrick, Paris
