Central finished one game ahead of Johnson in league play a season ago. Who wins the race this year? We dive into the conversation now.

Conference Commentary

Top Ten in State Potential: Johnson, Central

The Governors will be the biggest and deepest team in the league. Central is the returning champ, they have the best player in the league, and a solid core of returning players. Who wins? Whichever team finds the right chemistry together. I think Johnson will overwhelm teams with their depth at times and if their assets blend together, they should be the favorites. Central was able to blend well last year to win 11 of 12 league games and you would expect them to have a good chemistry together once again.

Compete with Most: Highland Park, Como Park

Highland Park and Como Park are teams we think that could take a step forward. Both programs were quite involved in the off-season, they have some good returning players, and although they have senior scorers to replace, they should have the talent and coaching to be top four in this league.

Rebuilding: Washington, Harding, Humboldt

Washington won 11 games last season but they were winless in league play. They have a decent amount of players returning which should help them stay in that same win area and win some league games potentially too. Harding went to state and that was great, but they then lost everything from their rotation. Between graduation, transfers and whatever else, Harding is starting over. Humboldt has a new coach who has a few league honored players returning to work with.

St. Paul City Conference Power Ranking

25-26 Conference Predictions

(1) Johnson

(2) Central

(3) Highland Park

(4) Como Park

(5) Humboldt

(6) Harding

(7) Washington

Preseason St. Paul City Conference

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2120500' first='Eli' last='Moseman'] of Central (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1560859' first='Kenneth' last='Turner'] of Johnson (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2140591' first='Colin' last='Moore Jr'] of Johnson (Jr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2710243' first='Sefi' last='Whittington'] of Central (Sr)

Jermaine Thomas-Curtis of Johnson (Sr)

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2120509' first='Guarino' last='Kamp'] of Johnson (Sr)

Tesfaamlak Sturm of Central (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1874815' first='Contrell' last='Jenkins'] of Como Park (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2874892' first='Izaiah' last='Davis'] of Highland Park (Jr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2392217' first='David' last='Addai'] of Johnson (Soph)

Third Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2417208' first='Jakar' last='Rice'] of Humboldt (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2461598' first='Etienne' last='Reyes'] of Central (Sr)

Fadal Alabi of Humboldt (Jr)

Finnegan Bloedel of Central (Sr)

Octavius Johnson of Johnson (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2569265' first='Noah' last='Rieger'] of Washington (Jr)

Fourth Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1874923' first='Otahl' last='Webb'] of Highland Park (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1874849' first='Hezekiah' last='Bradshaw'] of Como Park (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2917321' first='Damonte' last='Duncan'] of Central (Sr)

Jimale Ahmed of Washington (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2832757' first='Kaiden' last='Elphage'] of Johnson (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2049978' first='Paris' last='Pollard'] of Johnson (Sr)
