The return of Lake Oswego to prominence has gotten underway under head coach Tully Wagner, and [player_tooltip player_id='1604657' first='Liam' last='Rigney'] has been a big part of the resurgence. The versatile 6-foot-6 wing is aiming for a big senior season, so he's been hard at work improving his skills while trying to attract attention from college coaches. In addition to individual work, he spent the spring playing with the NW Rotary Rebels against top-notch competition it was time he felt was very productive.

"I think I showed people what I can do on like the highest level," Rigney said. "I had a lot of 20-point games, and I had teammates from California and Seattle, so it was good to play with those guys. It was high-level competition and hopefully I get the confidence to come back here and just kill."

In addition to playing, Rigney noted that his off-season has been spent in the weight room, working on improving his vertical, speed, and agility. "I worked out with a trainer like four times a week, so that's primarily been the focus," Rigney said. "And then just skill development, getting a tighter handle, better shot, quicker release. It was a lot catch and shoot (with club basketball), but I'm trying to work on getting faster and also driving and then being able to like kick it out to my teammates."

Playing high-profile club basketball meant getting in front of college coaches and Rigney notes he's been talking to a number of school, most notably San Diego and Claremont-McKenna. He's currently keeping all of his options open. "I want to play somewhere warm, preferably like D1 or D2, but I'm open to anything," Rigney said. "I just want to keep playing."

As his options continue to develop into the season, for now Rigney is focused on bonding with his Lake Oswego teammates this month of June. He's been impressive getting buckets at all three levels, and is really looking forward to his senior season with the Lakers.

"I think we're kind of the underdogs," Rigney said. "We're missing a lot of guys here (in the summer), like we got a lot of big football kids, but we've got [player_tooltip player_id='2833446' first='Jackson' last='Freeman'] - he's a dog - and we've got Robbie (Durbin). So I think our goal since day one this season has been Childs (Center). I don't think anybody thinks we're going to get there, but I was talking to Coach Marshall Cho the other day he was like, you guys got the pieces - you guys just got to come together. So we're just trying to mesh out here and open some eyes this season."

Rigney currently ranks as the #13 player in the recently updated Class of 2026 rankings.
