Playing alongside Montague, it gave Lawson the opportunity to play off the ball and he looked comfortable doing so. He was solid off the catch-and-shoot and he didn’t just settle for jumpers, he also was active getting downhill off the bounce and finishing strong around the hoop. When given the opportunity, especially off the rebound, he pushed the ball up the floor as he did his entire four-year career at Canby.

For our money, Lawson might be one of the more under appreciated players in the state. A tough point guard who regularly makes winning plays. He did just that in a play off win over Crescent Valley to set up a rematch with Parkrose, who most consider to be the favorite to win the 5A title.

Lawson remains in the top five as he comes into 2025-26 as the leader at the point for who may very well be the pre-season number one 5A team in Canby. The 6-foot guard consistently pushed the ball and made plays this off-season in both AAU ball and with his high school team, and his competitiveness and leadership will be critical in the Cougars’ chase for their first-ever state title.
