Our 2025 rankings update didn't see a ton of movement across the entirety of the 200+ player list. There were however a handful of players who have helped their stock either in the fall or early during the high school season. In this article we'll take a look at seven guards who made jumps up our list.

No team has played a tougher three game slate to open the season than Westerville North. Facing off against two defending state champions in Saint Ignatius and Richmond Heights while also taking on defending Columbus regional finalist Olentangy Orange, Westerville North has taken their competition to the next level this season. Young is committed to a Mountain East program that can use his defensive versatility and athleticism. Young also has improved his vertical explosiveness and has continued to fill out his frame. If Westerville North is going to make a state title push, they'll need Young to be an impactful two-way piece.

Another central Ohio guard already off the board to a regional Division II program, Calloway is off to Gannon. I think this is a nice fit for Calloway who is one of the best defensive guards in the state. His ability to pressure the ball fits in really well with Bishop Hartley and will translate at Gannon. Gannon is 8-2 and has scored over 87 points in every game this season so you know they want to turn you over and push the pace, two areas where Calloway can excel. Bishop Hartley has also gotten off to a fast early season start, they ran Pickerington Central out the gym to open the season.

Perkins had a big game at the All Ohio Hoops Showcase to open the season with a win over Columbus Africentric. Perkins has been one of the top point guards in the Dayton area for a couple years now and is the leader of the Wayne squad this season. It'll be interesting to see what level Perkins ends up at, he has some games in marquee events to continue to be seen by coaches at the college level.

Foster is a high academic guard who has helped change the culture at Dublin Scioto, being a key piece to their impressive 2023-24 season. Foster had some big numbers in scrimmages with some above the rim finishes on the fast break. Also able to make shots from the perimeter either off the catch or dribble, there's a reason Foster was a first team all conference selection as a Junior. Look for Foster to be one of the leading scorers in the OCC this winter.

Another player who had a monster scrimmage, Collins put up 39 points against Foster in an impressive showing. One of the elite shooters in central Ohio, Collins will launch from NBA range with confidence. Small college programs looking to add a shooter to help your floor spacing in the halfcourt should take a look at Collins.

A Prep Hoops Expo standout, Johnson improved his stock with us after being dominant as a scorer in the fall. A point guard with the ability to get hot from the outside and create out of isolation situations, Johnson can get a bucket for himself. He continued this momentum this winter with a 31 point game to open the season against Westland. I think Johnson could be a nice scoring sparkplug early in his college career due to his microwave ability.

Another Prep Hoops Showcase standout, Johnson was getting busy in the fall not only at our event but also the Midwest fall league. While he was doing that on the hardwood in the fall, some of his other high school teammates just got done winning a football state championship. I wouldn't be stunned if it takes Bishop Watterson a few weeks to get going during basketball season but Johnson should be a key piece once they get together and get their legs under them. A small college target at the point guard position.
