Expert Analysis
Eric Wallace | Prep Hoops Scout
The Gannon signee and All-WCAC selection brings a versatile, team-first presence to the wing with clear “glue guy” characteristics that impact winning. Averaging 10.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, he consistently contributes across the stat sheet while doing many of the little things that don’t always show up in the box score. With good length and above-average athleticism, he runs the floor well, rebounds effectively at both ends, and defends multiple positions.
Offensively, he is a solid open shot maker who understands spacing and shot selection, but his value goes beyond scoring. He moves well without the ball, makes timely cuts, and keeps the offense flowing with smart decisions. Simply put, he knows how to play — competing with toughness, rebounding his area, and embracing whatever role is needed to help his team win at the next level.

The Gannon University signee. Plays the game at his own pace. A mid-range assassin who loves how much he put his head down and attacked the rim. Good size and length for the forward position came out extremely aggressive and took his game to another level this Saturday. Finishing the game with 10 points on 4-7 from the field, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Edwards was a bright spot for his O’Connell squad due to his 2-way activity. He was relentless on the glass making several hustle plays to keep possessions going. Edwards also showed his ability to be unselfish but not letting the basketball stick to his hands. He added 14 points and made the most of his chances at the foul line.

-Have really enjoyed watching the progression of Edwards’ development as a W/F tweener that takes on any task with this Knights group. Edwards can switch 1-5, hits the glass extremely hard, has improved his handle to become a much more effective driver, and has really worked on his touch in the paint on putbacks and floaters. Edwards is especially dynamic in transition as a play-finisher that can fill the wing or race it upcourt himself. One of the youngest prospects in the class, I think we might see one more growth spurt before he graduates but still think the consistency and value that he brings to his team should be valued more by college coaches this year. As the co-captain of a Knights team that I think will be better than most expect this season, he will have plenty of opportunity to do so.

-Really impacted the game at both ends of the floor with his physicality and energy as the only front court player for O’Connell. Edwards showed off some improved skill with a spin move lay off glass in transition, broke his defender down to cross over and finish with the left at the rim, and showed great touch on several cutbacks around the basket. His length, size, and athleticism allows him to be a whirling dervish of activity that serves as a disruptive wing defender on one end and a productive slasher on the other.

is always going to positively impact winning when he steps on the court. Justin plays with an elite motor and is a great defender. Justin has good length, which allows him to guard bigger wings while also locking down smaller guards. He is an improving jump shooter, and even though he missed a lot of his looks out there today, I think that’s something that will come. Justin was great on the glass today and finished with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals against Highland.

DMV Live
-Edwards has grown an inch or so to 6’6+ and figures to have a breakout weekend as he will likely be OC’s second leading scorer. The bruising wing hits the glass hard, can defend multiple positions, serves as a great slasher within the Knights’ offense, and has made vast improvements to his jumpshot. His play impacts winning and his competitiveness shows through at both ends of the floor. Would be surprised if college coaches didn’t look at his frame, athleticism, skillset, and mentality– and come away thinking anything other than “This is a guy we should recruit.”

-Edwards serves as a physical bowling ball of a prospect that lays his body on the line for his team. Edwards will do anything to help his team win a ball game whether it’s out-toughing a big for a key offensive rebound, flying around defensively, attacking the rim, or switching effectively on ball screens to stifle bigs or clamp down guards. He utilizes a strong lower body to shade his defender towards the sideline and has come a long way to instinctively know when to show the refs his hands to avoid a cheap foul call when defending drives to the basket.

has improved so much over the past year. I love the all-around ability of his game, and playing for West Potomac last season, you saw what he could do as more of a go-to scorer. But after seeing Justin play at DMVlive and knowing what he brings to the court, I see him being one of the best glue guys in the state. Justin’s willingness to guard multiple positions and give high-level effort is why I think even with a step up in competition, he will find a role. He rebounds well and can score from all over the court. He will find his spot in a talented O’Connell Squad.
