One of the biggest stock risers this summer, Springer took another step in his game and was rewarded with offers from Navy and Air Force. A contributor for Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB and Saint Ignatius, Springer has shown the ability to fit in with other talented teammates. A good athlete with a head of steam, Springer has the vertical pop to throw one down on a defender underneath the rim. Also capable of making an open shot from the corner, Springer can provide valuable floor spacing from the forward position. I expect Springer to have a big year for a Saint Ignatius squad that has state title aspirations this winter.
Springer and Dalen are honestly very similar prospects, both big lefty forwards who move their feet well and have similar body types. Dalen is a bit more raw offensively in terms of decision making and feel for the game, but his physical upside is quite intriguing. A prospect who gets better every time I watch him play, Dalen consistently is adding to his game and making improvements in a variety of areas. Once he gets into a college program, Dalen could make a huge jump with continued reps in practice and more specialized weight room training. Lots of upside for scholarship programs to check out, I expect Dalen to be a hot prospect for regional Division II and NAIA programs this winter.
Highlights
Johnson is one of two committed prospects in this article as he decided to stay close to home and commit to Thomas More. Elder previously sent Carson Browne to Thomas More, who have made the jump from NAIA to Division II for this upcoming season. Johnson is a skilled forward who I think will breakout for Elder with more of the offense setup for him this winter. Capable of spacing the floor and attacking a closeout, Johnson can also punish a guard on a switch with his back to the basket. Expect Johnson to be one of the top forwards in Cincinnati this season and impact a lot of games in the always loaded GCL-South.
Findlay has done an excellent job at targeting prospects and securing early commitments in the 2024 class, Meister is a mismatch nightmare from the forward position with a unique blend of change of pace, ball handing and strength. Coming from a Newark program that demands toughness and high effort, Meister will be ready for the college coaching he’ll receive with the Oilers. After a strong summer with Ohio United, Meister wasted no time making a commitment after receiving a pair of GMAC offers. Expect Newark to once again be a tough out come playoff time and give talented teams trouble with their style of play and discipline.
Sticking with the Findlay theme, this time we head to Findlay high school with our last prospect of the article. I was impressed with Cordonnier at the Ohio State team camp, becoming a leader of a new look Findlay squad that graduated star guard Jake Bishop who will be staying at home and playing for the Oilers next season. A strong athlete who can get up on the rim, Cordonnier should put-up big-time numbers this winter. Expect Cordonnier to get a lot of small college attention from a variety of levels, coaches can check him out at the Toledo Top 64 this fall.
