10. Tyler Barnes Tyler Barnes 6'3" | CG Greenfield | 2024 State NC – 6’2 – Greenfield School
Tyler Barnes Tyler Barnes 6'3" | CG Greenfield | 2024 State NC has made quite the journey in earning the nod as a Top 10 combo guard in the 2024 class heading into his final season of high school ball. He’s a prospect with tremendous athleticism he uses on both ends of the floor to make an impact. He’s relentless with his lenght/athleticism as a defender and can finish in traffic and on the break with his energy around the rim. He’ll look to make his presence felt in the Greenfield School backcourt as he makes the jump from NCHSAA (Rocky Mount High) to NCISAA and bolsters things in the 252 area with one of their top programs. DII and DIII programs would be wise to get eyes on him. Roanoke College and Elizabeth City State have offered.
9. Miles Beard Miles Beard 6'3" | CG Moravian Prep | 2024 State NC – 6’3 – Moravian Prep
Miles Beard Miles Beard 6'3" | CG Moravian Prep | 2024 State NC is a 6-foot-3 guard that’s looking to raise his profile in the 2024 class with a recent move to Moravian Prep on the OTE scene. He’ll look to make a splash on a national stage with his ability to defend at a high level and knock down shots off the bounce utilizing his strong frame. He did well this past season at Hickory Ridge, posting 16.9 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 2.8 APG and 1.3 SPG on 44 percent shooting from the floor and 36 made 3-pointers in 2022-23. He’ll look to improve on a number of things on OTE this upcoming season.
8. Kyrell Shaw Kyrell Shaw 6'4" | SG Northside Christian Academy | 2024 State NC – 6’2 – Northside Christian Academy
Kyrell Shaw Kyrell Shaw 6'4" | SG Northside Christian Academy | 2024 State NC continues to climb up the PH radar in the state and in the class out of Northside Christian Academy. He’s got an NCISAA state title to defend a year after producing 15.5 PPG, 2.9 PRG, 2.0 APG and 1.6 SPG in the backcourt alongside top point guard name Joshua Bullock Joshua Bullock 6'0" | PG Northside Christian Academy | 2024 State NC . The duo of Bullock/Shaw returns in 2023-24 looking to wreak more havoc on NCISAA foes and beyond. Shaw knocked down 100 3-pointers in 2022-23 and is one of the more underrated playmakers in the class. DII programs should take notice of him this season! Lees-McRae has offered him.
7. Evan Morton Evan Morton 6'2" | CG Moravian Prep | 2024 State NC – 6’2 – Moravian Prep
Evan Morton Evan Morton 6'2" | CG Moravian Prep | 2024 State NC is another mover into the Moravian Prep (OTE) fold after winning a state title in 2021-22 with United Faith Christian Academy. He’s a combo guard that’s shown he can knock down shots from deep and distribute the basketball in the halfcourt. He’ll look to up the ante a bit with a move onto a bigger national platform as he looks to do damage alongside another top name out of the Charlotte area in Miles Beard Miles Beard 6'3" | CG Moravian Prep | 2024 State NC . Morton posted 10.3 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.4 APG and 1.1 SPG as a junior with the Falcons as they fell short in the NCISAA 1A State title game. He’s a name for MM D1 and HM DII programs to get eyes on this season.
6. Rashad McCormick Rashad McCormick 6'7" | CG Andover Prep | 2024 State NC – 6’7 – Andover Prep (MA)
Rashad McCormick Rashad McCormick 6'7" | CG Andover Prep | 2024 State NC is a late-blooming combo guard that continues to show his growth heading into a post-grad year. He did damage in the Hough High backcourt this season as an attacker and scorer off the bounce, putting up 16.1 PPG on 52 percent shooting from the field along with 6.7 RPG, 2.3 APG and 1.0 BPG as a versatile presence on the wing and in the backcourt. He’s a prospect that’s ready to show he can knock down shots on the perimeter. Chicago State, Maine, Vermont and Florida Memorial University offered him during the grassroots season as he heads into a post-grad season with Phillips Andover Academy in Massachusetts.
5. Jamari Briggs Jamari Briggs 6'6" | CG Christ | 2024 State NC – 6’6 – Christ School
Jamari Briggs Jamari Briggs 6'6" | CG Christ | 2024 State NC returns to Christ School in 2023-24 looking to do more damage after getting the attention of college coaches on the D1 stage this past spring/summer with the Upward Stars program. He’s made quite the splash in the Western NC region since making his splash out of Hartsville High. He’s an indispensable combo guard that makes an impact on both ends of the floor with his ability to defend and attack the rim. He’s shown he can knock down shots on the perimeter and as he does that with consistency, look for his recruitment to continue to grow. USC Upstate, Radford, Tarleton State, North Carolina A&T, and Xavier have all offered him as he looks to defend their NCISAA 4A State crown.
4. Jayan Walker Jayan Walker 6'5" | SG Combine Academy | 2024 State NC – 6’5 – Millbrook High
He’s set to be quite the 1-2 combination on the hardwood in 2023-24 with Colt Langdon Colt Langdon 6'7" | SG Millbrook | 2025 State #114 Nation NC and Brandon Callahan Brandon Callahan 6'3" | SG Millbrook | 2024 NC both returning in the lineup as well. He’s a strong prospect that can create in isolation in a variety of ways given his IQ and solid frame at 6-foot-5. He produced 17.8 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.8 SPG and 1.3 APG on 50 percent shooting from the floor and 35 percent shooting from deep in 2022-23. He’s a smooth operator in the halfcourt that can knock down shots with ease at volume. He’s already drawn in a ton of offers from the likes of Radford, High Point, St. Bonaventure, UT-Arlington, William & Mary, UNC-Greensboro, Iona, and James Madison among a lot of other MM programs.
3. Paul Jones Paul Jones 6'4" | CG Combine Academy | 2024 State NC – 6’4 – Combine Academy
Paul Jones Paul Jones 6'4" | CG Combine Academy | 2024 State NC moves from the state of Virginia to Combine Academy in the Lincolnton area as he looks to make his presence felt as a top combo guard in the 2024 class. He’s a prospect that’s shown he can operate in a variety of ways in the backcourt and on the wing with his length, athleticism and shooting ability. He’s developed tremendously over the past few months as a consistent two-way presence that can score, rebound and make things happen for others. Ohio, Radford, American, Hofstra, UW-Milwaukee and Queens have all offered him as he looks to grow his stock on the national stage with OTE/Combine Academy.
2. Sir Mohammed Sir Mohammed 6'6" | SG Myers Park | 2024 State #83 Nation NC – 6’6 – Myers Park High
Sir Mohammed Sir Mohammed 6'6" | SG Myers Park | 2024 State #83 Nation NC is a recent commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish out of Myers Park High. He’s continued to impress with his ability to operate at either guard spot. He was their second-leading scorer (13.5 PPG) as they took home the 4A NCHSAA State crown with a victory over Richmond County Senior High in 2022-23. He’s an impressive combo presence that put up 13.5 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 4.9 APG and 1.9 SPG alongside top point guard prospect Bishop Boswell Bishop Boswell 6'4" | PG Myers Park | 2024 State #68 Nation NC this past season. The Boswell/Mohammed Connection returns in 2023-24 looking to do even more damage and they’ll certainly have their work cut out for them as they’ve built up a strong schedule this season.
1. Drake Powell Drake Powell 6'6" | CG Northwood | 2024 State #8 Nation NC – 6’6 – Northwood High
Drake Powell Drake Powell 6'6" | CG Northwood | 2024 State #8 Nation NC rounds out the Top 10 combo guards at the No. 1 spot as he enters his final season with Northwood High. He’s impressed over the past few seasons with his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. He really elevates the play of those around him with his ability to play with a ton of energy on the defensive side of the ball. He flies around blocking shots and forcing turnovers on one end and seamlessly finds others on the opposite end for easy buckets. It will be interesting to see how the UNC commit closes out his high school career as Northwood moves to 2A in the NCHSAA ranks.
