Continue ReadingThe CBG Grassroots Tip-Off took place on Saturday at RockIt Sports in Henrico, VA, and it was one of the top events on the east coast with some of the best teams from the DMV, VA and NC in attendance. There were over 30 teams ranging from 17U-15U, with some of the top teams in the area taking place.
We will be spending the next week breaking down the many standouts we saw at the event. If you want to watch the replay, you can see it on the CBG Live Network.
Here’s a look at part one of the many 16U standouts from the DMV teams in the event.
Cam Ward | 6’7” WF | Team Durant
Ward was perhaps the most intriguing prospect at the 16U division, as the 6’7” wing from Largo (MD) showed his versatility and all-around skillset that makes him one of the best wings in the country. There aren’t many flaws to Ward’s game as he showed Saturday as he scored the ball from all three levels effortlessly, he showed he can handle it or run the wing in transition where he got easy buckets and he rebounded well and defended multiple positions too. The best part about his game that he will sense a weakness in his opponent and just exploit and punish that weakness until they decide to switch defenders.
Jayden Fort Jayden Fort 6'8" | PF Jackson-Reed | 2025 State #128 Nation MD | 6’8” PF | Team Durant
Fort burst onto the scene this season with Jackson-Reed as we saw his potential at his size, and now he’s starting to show that he is turning the corner and getting more comfortable in his role. The 6’8” big man has good versatility as he has the size to rebound and finish in the paint, he can run the floor and get out in transition and he showed good touch on his jumper out to 18 feet. He’s always been impressive with his size and motor and now that he’s adding to his game he could take another jump this summer.
Alier Maluk | 6’10” C | Team Durant
It was very hard to not to immediately be drawn to Maluk with his frame as he’s 6’10” with long arms, and his athleticism allowing with that makes him a very intriguing prospect. He’s very mobile as he can run the floor and gets up and down well, he’s quick off his feet as a rebounder and rim protector and he showed good touch and the ability to elevate over defenders to finish at the rim. He’s still somewhat raw but he’s chock full of potential and I expect him to just get better and better throughout the summer.
Mario Tatum Mario Tatum 6'2" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2025 State MD Jr. | 6’2” PG | Team Durant
Tatum didn’t play a major role for this team on Saturday, but he played well within his role and looks like he’s going to be a major part of their team this year. The lead guard out of Mt. Carmel is a skilled ball handler who handles pressure well, he shot the ball very well in his attempts from deep and he showed the ability to get by defenders and make plays for others off the bounce. He’s coming off a big sophomore season and I expect him to continue to get better throughout the summer.
Eric Reibe Eric Reibe 7'0" | C Bullis | 2025 State #82 Nation MD | 6’11” C | New World
Reibe was perhaps the breakout player of the event (and I’m kicking myself for not getting a head shot) as he picked up three offers from schools watching the live stream and made it clear he’s going to burst on the scene this summer. The 6’11” German native from Bullis showed a blue collar type of work ethic as he banged in the post and protected the rim, he was always around the ball and showed good hands catching tough passes and he showed the ability to finish above the rim and showed good touch finishing through traffic. He impresses immediately with his size and mobility but he has a lot of tools that will only continue to improve with time.
