Prospect Spotlight: Bryce Long
Bryce Long just completed a very successful sophomore campaign with the Scott County Cardinals. The Cardinals, full of youth and sure to have continued success in the years to come, finished the season with a 31-6 overall record and a trip to the Kentucky Sweet Sixteen state tournament. “Our season was nearly perfect!,” said Long. “Except for a couple of losses we wish we could take back, (such as Lexington Catholic and Bowling green in the state tournament), our goal from day one was to win our region and go to state.”
Scott County’s losses to Lexington Catholic (regular season) and Bowling Green (state tournament) were their only in-state defeats. “Coach scheduled a tough schedule on purpose to prepare us for tournament time. We played five really good out of state teams. Only winning one of those games, every loss was within 3 points. I believe those tough fought losses helped us in the long run.”
Long finished the season averaging 11.7 points per game, shooting over 45% from the field. Long is capable of playing both the point and off guard positions, as he handles the ball well and is capable of shooting it with range.
This summer Long will be competing in AAU ball with the Louisville Lightning. “This is my first year with this team. I played a tournament this last past weekend with them and really enjoyed playing with the guys and I really like the coach! The team is very unselfish and we work the ball around very well.”
Long said one of the aspects of his game that he hopes to work on the most during the off-season was getting stronger. “I also need to improve my pull up jump shot. I’ve improved my pull up a lot from last year but there is definitely room for a lot of improvement,” said Long of his goals.
His goal after high school is to earn a full-ride to a college playing basketball. Although he’d like to play at the D-1 level, he plans to work as hard as he can and be the best player possible for whichever program he lands at. “I’d also like to find a college with a good engineering program.”
