It may be only his sophomore season, but [player_tooltip player_id="1113084" first="Quincy" last="Townsend"] has been playing like a veteran. It certainly helps that the cerebral 6-foot-2, 175-pound point guard knows the game as the coach’s son but his play on the court has reflected that as well. Balancing scoring and passing, he’s helped lead Mountain View back to a winning record and in solid contention for a post-season berth.

"I feel like it’s going really well," Townsend said. "We started off from last year a little slow, but as workouts started we picked up where we left off and we built on that."

Townsend has clearly been a huge reason behind the team’s turnaround. He’s been one of 6A’s leading scorers all year at currently just under 20 points per game, and he can easily change gears and pass first - in one game we watched at South Salem, he handed out 12 assists. He credits some of his development to the time he spent playing AAU basketball with the Oregon Prospects last summer.

"I feel like I really worked on my tempo with Prospects," Townsend said. "I worked on my game at being an actual point guard. I was able to dish the ball a lot and get all my teammates involved."

It’s early when it comes to college recruitment for Townsend, but there’s no question his plans are to play at the next level - wherever that may be. "My goal is just to play at the highest level that I can," Townsend said. "I work had and I want to play basketball, so that’s what I want to do. I’ll play anywhere - I just love basketball and I want to play."

Townsend and Mountain View recently picked up another big league win at West Salem to even their league record at 5-5. Townsend expects the momentum to continue. "I think we’re going to far this year - that’s our goal," Townsend said. "It’s been my goal to play with Tane (Prictor) ever since I was in seventh grade and that’s what I was looking at, my sophomore year when he was a senior. That’s what we dreamed of."

Townsend currently ranks as the #9 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 rankings.
