A variety of west coast teams made their way to Momentous Sports Center where the bracket-play style produced competitive games all weekend. Below is our third set of standouts from the 17u crop of talent.
Taviontae Jackson, Nevada Hard 2 Guard – Jackson was one of the more dynamic all-around scorers at the event. The 6-foot-2 lead guard used both his strong frame and crafty ball-handling ability to get where he wanted on the floor any time he wanted to. Jackson showed the ability to finish through and over contact while also stretching the floor from the three-point line. Jackson displayed great vision in the open court and was a willing passer who hit his teammates on-time and on-target.
Sean Johnson Sean Johnson 6'6" | SF Sandia | 2022 State NM , ABC New Mexico 2022 National – Johnson proved to be a match-up nightmare for most opponents because of his combination of size, strength and mobility at the four spot. The 6-foot-6 forward out of Sandia High in New Mexico scored in a variety of ways, including face-up jumpers and drives and finishes through contact. Johnson’s strong frame and good lateral speed allowed him to guard multiple positions on the floor and his rebound and push ability helped ABC New Mexico generate early offense and mismatches.
Elijah Knudsen Elijah Knudsen 5'10" | CG Mead | 2022 State CO , PSB Denver – If there was a list of best shooters in this event, Knudsen would be at or near the top of it. The 5-foot-10 Mead high school product hit multiple triples in each game he played in, including a 40-point, 11-three pointer performance in a huge win over Gamepoint Supreme. Knudsen, a Colorado Mesa commit, filled up the scoring column from deep with both stop and pop deep balls off the bounce and the catch-and-shoot variety.
Aidan Kuhl Aidan Kuhl 6'0" | SG Rocky Mountain | 2022 State #245 Nation CO , PSB Denver – Like his teammate Knudsen, if there was a list of crafty scorers from this event, Kuhl would be at or near the top of it. The 6-foot-1 lefty used his shiftiness and change of speeds to keep defenders off balance and got to the spots where he could comfortably get off his pull-up jumper. Kuhl, who plays his high school ball at Rocky Mountain HS in Fort Collins, can play both guard positions due to his scoring ability, ball skills and passing and playmaking IQ.
