KHSAA Basketball season starts officially on October 15th and this season looks to be pretty open. There is so much talent in the bluegrass state right now and this season is shaping up to be a great one. It's time for my annual "Top 5 Preview" where I break down the top 5 teams and college prospects in each region. These are the top 5 college prospects, not the top 5 high school players right now.

Top 5 Teams:

Fairdale - They were likely to be the favorites before they got the best player in the region back from transfer. With [player_tooltip player_id='1751496' first='Ferlandes' last='Wright'], [player_tooltip player_id='2438889' first='Kamari' last='Roberts'], [player_tooltip player_id='2479666' first='Jarel' last='Butler'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1745595' first='Michael' last='Ray Stinnett'] on the roster, Coach Stinnett has 4 players capable of scoring 20+ every night out.

W.E.B. DuBois - DuBois has the best individual scorer in the 6th with [player_tooltip player_id='1751495' first='Ja'Rye' last='Brown']. The question is if he will get enough help to knock off Fairdale when it matters. Khalil Ogletree is a solid Robin to Brown's Batman but will they have the firepower to compete for a regional title?

Evangel Christian - The youngest team in the state last season, Evangel is loaded with talented 2030s and has a true big in [player_tooltip player_id='2876729' first='Pablo' last='Molima']. Look for [player_tooltip player_id='3424689' first='Tyson' last='Darko'], Golden Dotson and [player_tooltip player_id='3417553' first='Myles' last='Johnson'] to be leaders of this very talented group.

Jeffersontown - Weird to see J-Town not mentioned as a top contender in the 6th. They could potentially still win the 6th this year. [player_tooltip player_id='2391798' first='Davion' last='Glenn'], [player_tooltip player_id='2411599' first='Johnny' last='McFarland'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3589343' first='Kayden' last='Bruce'] all are back for Coach Duncan's squad

Pleasure Ridge Park - PRP may not have the star power of the teams ranked ahead of them but they play super hard and have the capability to knock off any team, any night. With swarming pressure defense and several good players, the Panthers are a real sleeper to get to Rupp Arena.

Top 5 College Prospects:

[player_tooltip player_id='1751496' first='Ferlandes' last='Wright'], Fairdale - Back after a one year trip to La Lumiere in Indiana, Wright is the top player in Louisville and is committed to play for the Cardinals after his high school career ends.

[player_tooltip player_id='1751495' first='Ja'Rye' last='Brown'], W.E.B. DuBois - Recently off the board to IPFW, Brown has been, in my opinion, the best isolation scorer in Kentucky for the last few seasons. Ja'Rye can go for 40+ points any night this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2876729' first='Pablo' last='Molima'], Evangel Christian - A blue collar worker, Molima is committed to Kent State. A nightly double-double, Pablo is a high level rebounder whose offensive game continues improving. He could be the best option to guard Wright in a potential regional clash.

[player_tooltip player_id='2438889' first='Kamari' last='Roberts'], Fairdale - The engine that makes Faridale go. Roberts is both quick and fast with the ball in his hands. A streaky shooter, Kamari should be elite at getting into the paint and creating open looks for his teammates all season long.

[player_tooltip player_id='3424689' first='Tyson' last='Darko'], Evangel Christian - The best of the group of freshmen at Evangel (for now). Darko already has multiple D1 offers and is going to be a matchup problem for everyone in the region. Assuming he stays in Kentucky, Tyson is going to score a LOT of points in his career.

Most Likely Mr. Basketball Finalist:

[player_tooltip player_id='1751496' first='Ferlandes' last='Wright'], Fairdale
