The Expo: 2028 Guards Making Their Mark

Throughout the week we have taken a look at a few team evaluations, 2027 guards who were impactful, and bigs/forwards from The Expo that caught our attention. In this final piece it is the 2028 guards whose games will be broken down below. Lets get into it!      Combo guard with a smooth perimeter stroke and well rounded offensive game. He showed a solid handle with an ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. Provided spark on the glass at times to secure offensive rebounds and draw contact going back up. Lettvin also has a willingness to distribute to teammates on well timed passes that makes his overall development more intriguing moving forward.     Christian was a prominent 2028 name that caught our eye from The Expo. In the game I watched he provided a string of multiple possessions where he blocked the defenders shot and provided sound defensive activity. He brings an exceptional wingspan to the combo guard role where he can help disrupt around the paint area as well. On the offensive end, he slashes to get downhill quickly and attack baselines for finishes. Add in mobility to play above the rim and Christian continues to emerge as an intriguing two way player.     Johnson plays with good pace and is able to change speeds with the ball in his hands. He uses quite a bit of hesitation and shiftiness to manauver defenders in order to get space. Showed versatility as a scorer and looked settled on catch and shoot opportunities from three. His speed showed in the open floor where he can get to another level in transition and finish. Defensively Johnson had awareness away from the ball and recognized opportunities to provide help and in trapping scenarios. Situationally he has sound feel on both ends.     Scrappy guard that plays with recognition and toughness. Able to create looks with a solid handle. Posted up an opposing guard once to catch with a 1 dribble turn and score. Mackey is comfortable attacking off the bounce and can draw contact getting by a defender's should. Shows selflessness and feel as a pass first facilitator and will make the extra to a more open teammate.     Two way player that we have caught a few times over the summer months and who continues to improve. Owens showed sound awareness on both ends of the floor consistently putting himself in position to make productive plays. Provided connective passes off the bounce and in transition with well timed reads. His toughness and competitiveness showed with fighting for a offensive board in heavy traffic to then finish a putback. Defensively Owens stayed active and alert helping create turnovers including a couple clean pick pockets.     Shifty point guard that can jet to another level quickly. Helps create efficient offense with the ball in his hands. Nwagwu showed craft at the rim after getting downhill to finish off the glass while also converting on breakaway opportunities. His facilitation skills were evident with well timed pitch ahead passes and drop offs underneath. Nwagwu provides floor spacing capability while knocking down shots beyond the arc as well. On the defensive side, he competes well at the point of attack and stays engaged on the ball.     Williams showed ways to produce both in the half court and transition setting. He provides consistent floor spacing from the perimeter and is able to knock down catch and shoot opportunities with confidence. Displayed sound awareness in the open floor with some well timed pitch ahead passes to teammates ahead of the defense. In Game 6 he took a defensive rebound coast to coast for a fast break layup showing ability to take advantage on the break.     Stock continued to rise for Harvey at The Expo over the weekend. The long and slim combo guard prospect shows an intriguing ability to create offense from multiple levels with speed and agility. Displayed some craft off the bounce using a spin move to create separation before rising above out stretched arms for a turnaround jumper. Looked comfortable pullup up off the dribble as well while showing touch and balance in the mid range game. Harvey continues to show comfort from beyond the arc where he fits in well as a shooting guard. With a talented group at Chicago Mt. Carmel, Harvey will fit right into the mix while providing positive production.     Consistently brings a team approach mentality to the game. Meza-Herrera runs the floor hard and often helping organize transition opportunities. His ability to sprint ahead of the defense was evident with multiple finishes at the rim for breakaway points. He selflessly gave up the ball in various scenarios for dish off assists or after drawing help and getting a foot in the paint. Showed a lot of connective passing capability. Meza-Herrera also knocked down various transition threes off of pitch ahead passes while showing he can go into his shot off the bounce as well. The combo guard from Fenwick has sound and selfless over feel.     One of the most underrated players I saw today. Scholl turned heads with his versatility and positive impact he provided in multiple phases. The Dunlap guard showed strong feel offensively with feeding the post then spacing away, quick pitch ahead passes to streaking teammates filling the lane lines, and cutting backdoor for a score. His scoring arsenal included knock down spot up 3s, clean mid range jumpers, and using a spin move in transition to finish a really tough crafty layup off the glass. Defensively Scholl provided productivity with staying tough on the ball and not getting off balance vs quicker handlers. His aggressive and competitive approach will continue to provide valuable assets on both sides of the ball.
