Players Who Should Sign Up for the Freshman Showcase

The spring and summer gave us plenty of first impressions, but the best prospects keep stacking performances. This group earned our attention over the last few months and this will be our last look at them before we head into the high school season. Lock in now!    We saw Sanchez at Rocky Mountain Mayhem this Spring and were impressed by how he played back then, and he's been on the radar ever since. He impacts games in ways that push his team. He defended, attacked when he was supposed to, and was just so active. He's the type of versatile player who will be a name to watch. Now we'd love to see him bring that same energy to the Freshman Showcase and prove those flashes weren't a one-time thing.     Reese left the Centennial State Cup as a player I wanted another evaluation on for that [program_tooltip program_id='2440900' first='24MD' last='Team Daum']. The shot-making was there, but I also liked how he competed on both ends and made opposing guards uncomfortable. Showcases need that, teams need that! If he brings that same confidence shooting the basketball and defensive intensity to the showcase, he'll have another chance to put himself on more radars. It would certainly be a big push from us if he has a big day.     Johnson quietly put together one of the better weekends at Mile High Madness this Spring and we want to see how he builds on that performance. He scored from all three levels, made good reads, and never looked rushed with the ball. We now want to see him take that and show there's more to his game. The Freshman Showcase gives him another opportunity to prove that performance wasn't an outlier and continue creating buzz before the season begins.     Weaver caught our eye at Tune Up because he did things that led to his team picking up easy wins. He showcased that he could be a player worth following when he got it done defensively and impacted games on that end of the floor. He's a player who is patient, unselfish and can score when needed. He's a high-IQ prospect, and that kind of play translates at a showcase. We want to see him there.     Rogers showed at Rocky Mountain Mayhem that he knows exactly who he is. He's a player I certainly wanted to see more performances of as it was such a big performance that we wanted to start a Top 10 ranking list with the rest on the watch list, and he was going to probably be on the list. The only thing is we haven't seen him enough to make that call. When we did see him, he played through contact, embraced physicality with good size, and still went and finished. This is the perfect opportunity for him to show that he truly is one of the top players in this class and should be a name to know.     Jackson was one of the early names that really grabbed my attention this Spring. He anchored the paint, defended multiple positions, and looked comfortable picking his spots. He slashed, moved without the ball, and was running the baseline for easy baskets, and those reads can be what unlock his game. We'd like to see him get out to the showcase this upcoming weekend and prove he belongs. We feel he has a chance to be a name to know, and this is a place where he can boost his stock.     Ruggles played well when we saw him earlier this summer. He plays with an edge that's hard to ignore. He got downhill, stepped ou and shot the ball a bit, and was using his size. I liked how he put pressure on the defense, and that is something that could translate. That's the same mentality I'd love to see carry over to the showcase because guards who consistently play downhill tend to separate themselves, and he brings that.
