Division 3, Sectional 2 starts with Freedom. And it may end there as well as the Irish are loaded with experience up and down the lineup and are led by one of the elite players in the state in 6-foot-8 senior and Iowa State recruit [player_tooltip player_id='1847792' first='Donovan' last='Davis']. Appropriately, coach Andrew Gibbons has put together a killer non-league schedule that features outings with Wisconsin Lutheran, Dominican, Onalaska, Richfield, Minn., Seymour and DePere, among others. Outside of Freedom, the lower half of the sectional includes many strong squads, including Brillion, Little Chute, Winneconne and Xavier. The upper-half of the sectional is not as deep, but it does include a giant among Division 3 squads in defending sectional champion Seymour.

Following is a look at the top players and top teams in Sectional 2:

Top Five Players in Sectional 2
[player_tooltip player_id='1847792' first='Donovan' last='Davis'], 6-8, Sr., F, Freedom
[player_tooltip player_id='2434543' first='Logan' last='Ramczyk'], 6-2, Sr., G, Xavier
[player_tooltip player_id='2436991' first='Drew' last='Lenz'], 5-10, Soph., G, Winneconne
[player_tooltip player_id='2387960' first='Quinn' last='Wesenberg'], 6-4, Sr., G, Bonduel
[player_tooltip player_id='2508494' first='Isaac' last='Feske'], 6-3, Sr., F, Seymour

Five Breakout Performers in Sectional 2
[player_tooltip player_id='2809429' first='Colton' last='Larsen'], 6-5, Sr., F, Brillion
[player_tooltip player_id='2724372' first='Kaden' last='Vandenberg'], 6-1, Sr., G, Freedom
[player_tooltip player_id='3020705' first='Trevor' last='Verhagen'], 6-1, Sr., G, Little Chute
[player_tooltip player_id='2614867' first='Owen' last='Birschbach'], 6-5, Jr., F, New Holstein
[player_tooltip player_id='2615539' first='Jordan' last='Krause'], 6-3, Jr., G, Seymour

Top Five Teams in Sectional 2

1. Freedom -- After losing 57-54 to Milwaukee Academy of Science in the 2025 Division 3 title game, Freedom fell to Seymour 56-49 in a sectional semifinal last March, ending a 25-2 season. All five starters from that team return as the Irish set out to extend an impressive 36-game winning streak within the North Eastern Conference. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1847792' first='Donovan' last='Davis'], [player_tooltip player_id='2724372' first='Kaden' last='Vandenberg'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2140894' first='Cal' last='Calhoon'] have played together a long time and set the tone for this talented program that also welcomes back junior regulars [player_tooltip player_id='2402529' first='Owen' last='Henkel'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2386748' first='Rylan' last='Jochimsen']. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='3020026' first='Cole' last='Barse'] and junior [player_tooltip player_id='2386615' first='Jayden' last='Rueckl'] provide quality depth for Freedom, but the difference maker for the Irish definitely is the presence of the multi-talented and extremely versatile Davis, who committed to Iowa State over the summer.

2. Seymour -- Physical, productive and persistent senior wing Issac Fekse headlines another talented group for coach Bobby Kuchta at Seymour. Feske and junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2615539' first='Jordan' last='Krause'] are returning starters from a club that went 28-2 and lost to Racine St. Catherine's in the WIAA Division 3 state-title contest. Feske averaged 15.4 points and 6.1 rebounds and proved to be a player who competes well against taller players because of his strength and ability to finish plays through contact. Krause and junior [player_tooltip player_id='2508496' first='Teage' last='Cornell'], the first player off the bench for the Thunder a year ago, comprise a very gifted backcourt duo for Seymour, which also figures to receive strong play from junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2508497' first='Greg' last='Salzman'].

3. Bonduel -- It's been an impressive run for Bonduel, which enters the 2026-27 campaign with a lofty 46-game winning streak within the Central Wisconsin East Conference and qualified for the WIAA Division 4 State Tournament in each of the past two seasons, the first such appearances in school history. But the Bears get bumped up to Division 3 this time around due to the WIAA's competitive balance formula. Bonduel makes the move to Division 3 without forward Ryan Westrich, who scored 1,653 points during his brilliant four-year career but now is playing football at Western Michigan. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2387960' first='Quinn' last='Wesenberg'], [player_tooltip player_id='2386363' first='Carter' last='Moesch'] and Jake Zernicke are returning starters for coach Duke Copp while junior [player_tooltip player_id='2807273' first='Jack' last='Weier'] figures to step into a more prominent role after being a key reserve on last year's 25-4 squad. Wesenberg, one of the better players in the state's 2027 class, begins his fourth year of varsity play with 1,219 career points.

4. Xavier -- The Hawks return one of the top players in the entire sectional in senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2434543' first='Logan' last='Ramczyk'], a 6-foot-2 combination guard who can score, rebound and make others around him better with his sharp passing skills. Ramczyk enters the season with 1,376 career points and needs 375 points to become the school's all-time leading scorer. Classmates [player_tooltip player_id='2509443' first='Caden' last='Schuler'], Quinn Commerford, [player_tooltip player_id='2961793' first='Kolbe' last='Donnermeyer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2961792' first='Osaze' last='Fournillier'] also return for coach Matt Klarner, whose team will get tested throughout the season by the likes of Seymour, Fox Valley Lutheran, Winneconne and New London in the Bay Conference. Schuler and Commerford joined Ramczyk in the starting lineup last winter as the Hawks finished 20-8.

5. Little Chute -- The Mustangs won 16 games a year ago and coach Jake VanRoy welcomes back three starters along with newcomers from a JV1 team that finished 20-2. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='3020705' first='Trevor' last='Verhagen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3020711' first='Reece' last='Joten'] along with junior [player_tooltip player_id='3020708' first='Henry' last='Knudsen'] are proven performers for Little Chute and comprise a hard-nosed, tough-minded core to build around. All three are more than capable of averaging in double figures and all three are hugely important to the Mustangs' strong defense, which last year limited opponents to just 51.3 points per game. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='3020710' first='Jaden' last='Hermsen'], Charlie VandenHeuvel and [player_tooltip player_id='2396436' first='Matthew' last='Peeters'] were key players off the bench and figure to contend for starting roles along with juniors Brayden Hietpas and Mason Schneider.

Sleeper Team

Winneconne -- This squad can put points on the board. Andy they can do so in a hurry. Coach John Flanigan has a double-figure machine in his lineup each night in sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2436991' first='Drew' last='Lenz'], a 5-foot-10 dynamo who scores in virtually every way possible. Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='3022982' first='Aaron' last='Zimmer'] might be better known for his exploits on the baseball field, but he's a very important piece to the Wolves' basketball lineup as well as he provides strong rebounding and much-needed physicality near the basket. Flanigan's son, freshman [player_tooltip player_id='2643964' first='Nolan' last='Flanigan'], can also fill it up from the perimeter. Look for the Wolves to push tempo and let fly with deep shots all season.
