The 2028 class is one of the deepest I have seen in my time covering the state for Prep Hoops. More and more names are emerging all the time. Looking at the class as a whole, there are several players further down the list who could be breakout stars. Here's a look at some of the potential stars who are currently ranked outside the top 40.

McNear has a ton of physical tools but hasn't made a huge splash over the past two seasons at Collins and then at Scott County. Now enrolled at Great Crossing, Bray joins a loaded Junior class for the Warhawks and could be a dynamic wing player for them. If McNear gets his motor running all season, the reigning 11th region champions are going to be an even tougher out this season.

McNear's former teammate at Collins, Josh has established himself as a top Junior in the always loaded 8th region. Cochran is a solid bucket getter who can get to the rim and finish and is a capable playmaker with the ball in his hands. Collins has a new coach this winter and there's a good chance that Cochran will thrive in a wide open system this year.

Former Greenwood Coach Will McCoy told me that York should be a top 3 player in the region the next two years. A big guard who plays hard, motor is not an issue for Ethan. With his ability to slash from the perimeter and finish at the rim, York has a strong frame and can take contact at the point of attack and finish through it. There's potential for Ethan to be a total difference maker for the Gators this season.

Bryan Station lost as much to graduation as anyone this summer but the guard they call "Poppa" has been patiently waiting for his turn with the keys to the Bryan Station offense. Sanford has that opportunity now and will lead a relatively inexperienced Defender roster this winter. A good shooter who has played off the ball the last two seasons, look for Torrence to take over the Bryan Station offense and make a push back to Rupp Arena.

A player who has big time potential but hasn't put it together yet, Pegues should have ample opportunity at Male this season to show how much his game has developed. AJ will join fellow Junior Trey Hillerich to form one of the biggest front court duos that the state has to offer. If Pegues shows an outside game to go with his around the basket ability, look for the Bulldogs to be a tough out in the loaded 7th region.
