High-Ceiling Guards that'll be at the Kentucky Freshman Showcase

The 2026 Kentucky Freshman Showcase kicks off tomorrow afternoon, and it's headlined by some intriguing guard prospects. Here are a few who are primed to make a name for themselves:    Mason will enter his freshman year of high school with two years of varsity experience under his belt. He was a significant contributor off the bench for Male last season even before their roster took a hit from the injury bug. From sheer strength to athleticism, he has physical tools that are advanced beyond his years. He pairs those attributes with elite downhill abilities and high-level shooting accuracy. It's very likely he'll be the best prospect in the gym at the Freshman Showcase.     Miner has the tools to run the show at the varsity level once he proves himself capable of handling the physicality. Despite his smaller stature, he has deep shooting range from long distance and smooth shooting mechanics to go with it. His scoring potential, however, isn't limited to being an outside threat. He's efficient off the dribble both in the midrange and when getting to the rim. With all that said, his ability to facilitate for others might be his most valuable attribute to the Cardinals this upcoming season. His advanced IQ should give him an opportunity to shine against his peers at the Freshman Showcase.     Vaughn was one of many 2030 prospects on Evangel's varsity roster last season, and he appeared in more than a handful of games. He already had good positional size for his age and appears to look taller and stronger since last season as expected. His confidence as a ball handler and his wingspan make for intriguing ball manipulation skills. He uses his length well, taking long strides to cover a lot of ground on both ends of the court. Expect him to capitalize on a lot of mismatch opportunities against smaller guards and to find success jumping passing lanes at the Freshman Showcase.     Seemingly up to 5'11" now, Ashur should be one of the most confident guards in the building at the Freshman Showcase. He can heat up in a hurry from virtually anywhere on the court. Known for his shooting abilities, he's nearly equally as efficient when getting to the rim. He might pull off a flashy finish going downhill here and there, especially in a camp setting, but he doesn't waste any movements in route to his destination. Very intriguing prospect with a high ceiling if he continues to blossom.     Reece is one of the most exciting guards to watch in the 2030 class. He has a streakiness to nearly every aspect of his game, oftentimes getting things done in bunches whether it be scoring, facilitating, or defending. He shoots it with confidence from distance but also hunts opportunities in the 15ft range with equal determination. His soccer background translates well to the hardwood as evidenced by his clean footwork and his ability to accelerate with the ball in his hands. Expect him to turn heads at the Freshman Showcase.
