A lot of folks in the city of Louisville are high on Vaughn’s potential and for good reason. Long term, he’ll have the size and skillset that college programs covet in scholarship-level guards. At this stage of his young career, it’s just a matter of the work and staying consistent on the journey. He flashed just how good he can be at the Kentucky Freshman Showcase this past Saturday, playing his best ball when he exerted maximum effort. His pace and his ability to change direction with precision are his best attributes at the moment followed closely by his ability to connect from long distance.

Ashby had some big performances during the 5 on 5 part of the showcase with his final game being maybe his best. Ashby can get hot from 3-point range as he’s a confident shooter off the catch, especially from the wing. I liked Ashby’s pace on the ball as he showed the ability to slow down and use hesi moves to beat the defense off the dribble. If Ashby grows another couple inches by the time he hits senior year he could develop into one of the best wings in Kentucky’s 2030 class.

Vaughn was one of many 2030 prospects on Evangel’s varsity roster last season, and he appeared in more than a handful of games. He already had good positional size for his age and appears to look taller and stronger since last season as expected. His confidence as a ball handler and his wingspan make for intriguing ball manipulation skills. He uses his length well, taking long strides to cover a lot of ground on both ends of the court. Expect him to capitalize on a lot of mismatch opportunities against smaller guards and to find success jumping passing lanes at the Freshman Showcase.
