McNear has long been one of my favorite “high upside” players in this class. A transfer from Collins to Scott County over last summer led to a little bit of an adjustment period at this new school. As the season went along, Bray showed flashes of big time ability in stretches. He’s talented and has a high ceiling with the potential to be a D1 player.

Coming from Collins over to Scott County this summer, McNear is a player who should be looked at like a long term investment. While his frame is frail, Bray should only add bulk and size as he gets in the weight room and likely slows down his overall growth. Coach Sean Woods is going to place a premium on the defensive end and that should make a world of difference for Bray, whose offensive game is better than his defense right now. Keep tabs on McNear. He could be a much better player 12 months from now. And have a stronger frame to help him finish around the rim.

I was impressed with Tennessee Impact 15 U this week and despite a loss today, their team battled and remained competitive against a very talented Team Loaded squad. McNear did some things to help his team on both Wednesday and Friday that caught my eye. For starters, McNear has an extremely long wingspan and looks like an athlete physically. Finishing a couple of reverse layups at the rim, McNear loved using the rim as protection when going up. Also showing a basic understanding of moving the basketball, McNear was unselfish to swing the ball to the open man when required. Still in the early stages of his development and definitely has plenty of room to grow, I was still encouraged by what McNear showed me this week.

Bray is a high potential wing who is effective as a driver and capable of making an impact on the defensive end in addition to his offensive skills. Long and lean, McNear can become a really effective player as he adds some bulk to his wiry frame. He’s had a very strong AAU season and looks like he could be turning the corner as a prospect. Depending on how much he keeps growing and developing, Bray could be a big time prospect down the line.

McNear is a good slasher who can get to the rim and still has great long term potential. Bray will need to improve his three point shooting and free throw shooting over time but that sort of work comes in the offseason. With his length and athleticism, McNear is already a good prospect but if he starts adding bulk and irons out his shooting, he’s got a very high upside.

McNear has great length and athleticism already and will be a much better player and prospect once he smooths out the rougher edges of his game. For right now, Bray can be a player that does a lot of things really well but may not do one particular thing great. That will change though as I expect him to slow down his growing, improve his coordination and add bulk to his frame.
