Region 2's Small School Players to Watch

There's talent everywhere, from small schools to big schools and from big cities to small towns. This list is simply an opportunity to highlight some of the small school players to watch this upcoming season across each region of the state.   For Region 2, schools eligible to have a player included on the “small school” list are members of the All “A” Member schools for the 2026-27 season. Those schools include Caldwell County, Crittenden County, Dawson Springs, Fort Campbell, Heritage (Hopkinsville), Livingston Central, Lyon County, Trigg County and University Heights.   Here's a look at Region 2's small school standouts for the upcoming season:    [player_tooltip player_id='2122607' first='Nolan' last='Coffman'] averaged 17.8 points per game last season while shooting 56.2% from the field, knocking down 59 3 pointers at a 41.5% clip and nearly averaging a double double. Coffman most recently picked up an offer from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, adding to an offer from the University of North Alabama in July. His summer also included a spot on the Kentucky Junior All-Star team as one of the top players in the Class of 2027. Coffman has a well rounded game that allows him to contribute in several areas. He has the ability to fill multiple statistical categories on any given night.     [Pax Aikins] is now in Eddyville with defending 2nd Region champion Lyon County after previously playing at Caldwell County. As a sophomore at Caldwell County, Aikins led the team in scoring at 20.4 points per game while knocking down 67 3 pointers. He earned 2nd Region All Region and 7th District All District honors last season. Aikins is a reliable shooter who can create his own shot and find opportunities from beyond the arc. His consistent effort and activity on both ends of the floor make him a player to watch with his new team.     [player_tooltip player_id='3721200' first='Daelyn' last='Lander'] averaged 17.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season while knocking down 67 3 pointers at a rate above 35%. A talented quarterback, Lander also showed his playmaking ability on the basketball court. He scored a career high 31 points early in the season and matched that total later in the year. Lander has a reliable outside shot and can knock down multiple 3 pointers when he gets going. He also has the ball handling ability to create space and get into position for his shot.     [player_tooltip player_id='3476407' first='Landon' last='Swann'] averaged 16.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season while knocking down 83 3 pointers, an average of three per game. Earlier this month, Swann picked up an offer from Kentucky Christian University after receiving his first college offer from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg in July. His size and shooting ability complement each other, making him a difficult matchup for opposing defenses. Swann is one of the top shooters in the 2nd Region, and his three 3 pointers per game ranked among the best in the state. As good as he is from deep, his versatility makes him even more dangerous.     [player_tooltip player_id='3721527' first='Ethan' last='Slaton'] averaged a double double as a sophomore last season, finishing with 10.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He led his team in field goal percentage at 52.2%, while his rebounding average ranked among the top 25 in the state. Slaton pulled down 275 total rebounds, also putting him among the state's leaders in that category. Some of his more impressive double doubles included a 17 point, 14 rebound performance in December and a 21 point, 10 rebound outing in February. His consistency on the glass was a major part of his production throughout the season.     [player_tooltip player_id='3721809' first='Easton' last='Bourland'] is the returning leading scorer after averaging 12.6 points per game last season. He has already made his mark in the school's history as a track athlete, winning the first individual state track title last year. Bourland has also made an impact on the basketball court, where his contributions extend beyond the scoring column. He is a solid defender who reads the offense well and uses his quick hands to make plays. His ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor makes him an important piece for the team.     Not counting stats from three games at University Heights last season, [player_tooltip player_id='2542772' first='Kayn' last='Simmons'] averaged eight points per game as a freshman. As a guard, he has good size to go along with the athleticism and quickness to make plays in the open floor. Simmons handles the ball well and can push the pace in transition, where he has the ability to finish above the rim. He can also score from outside, giving him another way to attack defenses. Kayn does a good job handling contests and contact, wherever it may be on the floor.
