Young prospects who stood out at Colorado Live

Colorado Live may already be a couple of weeks behind us, but a handful of younger prospects are still worth talking about. This group wasn't expected to carry the spotlight, yet every time I found myself at their court they gave me another reason to keep watching. Some played well beyond their age, others embraced bigger moments against older competition, and several flashed the type of feel and upside that makes you circle a name for later. They're still early in their development, but they did enough at Colorado Live to earn another evaluation and a spot on the radar moving forward. Lock in now!     Feddersen was one of the bigger eye-openers for me at Colorado Live, as I have been wanting to see how he'd look as a major contributor on that Chaftield squad. We saw him have his moments with Mountain Stars, but only in blowout wins, so we needed to see him battle against top bigs and hold his own. The size jumps out immediately as he's already 6'10, but it was the versatility that kept pulling me back. Against Legend, he held his own physically while showing much more than a traditional back-to-the-basket game. He spaced the floor, knocked down multiple threes, looked like their best shooter, and then turned around and finished with jump hooks inside. Defensively, he covered ground well, altered shots, and continued running the floor, and that was up against a 7-footer. A big man with that kind of size with that kind of shooting touch is worth paying attention to, and at Live, he gave me a much better feel for where his game is headed.     Green was a player that we saw for the first time, but didn't look like someone seeing varsity competition for the first time. He settled into the flow of the game quickly, and it wasn't just one game where he was able to be effective. He stepped into open shots without hesitation and never played timid. What stood out most was how naturally he fit into Eaglecrest's offense despite not being a player we've seen with that team before. He moved the ball, stayed active defensively, and consistently made himself available instead of drifting and trying to fit in. It wasn't a loud weekend, but it was one that quietly put him on my radar. Curious to see how much he plays this upcoming season.     Heath is not a young guy, but he is another player we didn't know a ton about, but left wanting to know more about. He's the type of player you appreciate more the longer you watch. Heath was sprinting the floor, filling the lanes correctly, and constantly put himself in a position to make his mark in each game. He kept the ball popping, slashed, and attacked the paint. I liked how he got to the FT line at times and made his finishes. He also wasn't a mark on defense and had his plays where he was able to push guys to the help side defense and get a few steals. He's a glue guy who can earn some minutes this year by keying in on the little things, and he did that at Colorado Live.     Greene is a player we've been wanting to see more of, and one thing that continued to pop was his activity level. He kept plays alive, got good looks, and was a force not he offensive glass as well. He was cleaning up misses throughout the event and showing he could be a force down there, and that's how you earn extra time. His second half against Green Mountain was probably his best stretch throughout the event as he used his footwork on the block to finish through contact while also running the floor for easy baskets. Greene doesn't need the offense built around him to make his plays; he makes himself part of the offense and was a bright spot for Broomfield.     Hill was another spark for this Broomfield team and is a young guy who earned more minutes with his play. He has physical tools that are difficult to ignore, and what caught my attention was his work defensively. They put him at the front of the press which he sped guys up, and changed the tempo of the game, and pushed for a scoring run. He covered ground better than expected for his size, attacked rebounds, and gave the defense a different presence whenever he was on the floor. He's got a ways to go, but with performances like this, he's going to earn some minutes. Solid outing.     Baumgartner is beginning to grow into the player his frame suggests he can become. He was one of the biggest prospects at the event at 6'8, and his size alone demanded attention. When he got the ball, he forced double teams before he even put the ball on the floor. More importantly, he never looked overwhelmed by the pace or physicality of Colorado Live despite being a young prospect seeing that type of varsity attention for the first time. He rebounded everything in his area, set hard screens that created separation for guards, and anchored the paint defensively. He's still developing offensively, but you can already envision the role he'll carve out because of how much space he occupies and how willing he is to get in and do some of the dirty work.     The thing that stands out to me is consistency, and you know exactly what Pecic brings the moment he steps on the floor, and that's elite shooting. Every catch looked like a potential three, and his teammates clearly trusted him to let it fly. What encouraged me most was seeing the other parts of his game continue to develop. He rebounded outside of his area, ran the floor for transition finishes, and showed more athleticism than people probably give him credit for, as he had a couple of transition dunks. As Palmer's offense evolves, I'd love to see him hunt shots even more aggressively because he's the type of shooter that changes defensive game plans the second he crosses half-court. He's already one of the better knockdown shooters around, and there may still be another level if he continues expanding the rest of his game, but I liked what we saw from Pecic at Colorado Live.
