2027 Standouts at the Independence Day Classic

Here are nine more standouts from the Independence Day Classic at Bellevue College last weekend. This is a group of incoming seniors that includes a handful of familiar names, some under-the-radar stock risers, and a couple of newer names we are getting to know.    Harris was a relatively new watch for me. Saw him a bit during the D1 Showcase and it's pretty apparent he can have a big impact with his length, reactions, and ability to slash to the hoop. He's got a lot of the physical tools you look for in a wing prospect, has a quick second jump that showed up on the glass, and had a few strong drives down the middle where he finished up high.     Onochie was another newer name for me to watch over the Fourth of July weekend. He did a bunch of creating and scoring for [program_tooltip program_id='2078823' first='Washington' last='Supreme'], and was able to make something happen from each level. Had a pretty solid outside shot, was shifty and had the body control to separate for midrange pull-ups, and showed some toughness to finish around bodies at the rim. Has some microwave scoring ability and really got going to help lead their attack in one of their later games on Sunday.     The athletic wing continued to show improvements with his outside shot, knocking down an early three in their game against [program_tooltip program_id='2078823' first='Washington' last='Supreme']. Did well the rest of the way to remain aggressive on all fronts, but stay patient on offense and work for good shots. Had some great help side defense, was active on the glass, and looked to push in transition and advance the ball. He always brings good energy to the floor, and the improvements in his offensive approach and jumper will continue to benefit him as a two-way player.     Burley has really flourished this spring and summer with his outside shooting and playmaking. He continued to be a knockdown threat from behind the arc with [program_tooltip program_id='2076514' first='Local' last='Hoops'], but it's his playmaking that has really seemed to take another step forward recently. He's quicker to attack closeouts, stays on balance playing off two feet in the paint, and looks a step quicker anticipating reads and making decisions.     Lambert is a guy who can make a big impact as a spot up 3-point shooter, but he's been showing off his ability to create off the dribble and make plays with the ball as well. Did a nice job going at his man, getting into defenders' bodies at the rim and finishing, was excellent in transition, and made several nice reads and passes off of his paint touches.     One of the bigger risers over the spring and summer, Wilkes is a tough-minded post player who had another good showing at the event. Showed good patience out of high and low posts. Played well with his back to the basket as well as facing up. Displayed several moves from the blocks, utilized ball fakes, strength, and some extra efforts inside to finish plays.     The strong run of play continues for this physical forward as he showcased his ability to set up defenders with his combo of strength and quickness. He has the ability to power through players inside, deliver some force into bodies, as well as countering that expectation of force with quick spins and good footwork. Does a nice job facing up away from the basket as well, and once he gets an angle on defenders, does well to get into them and create even more space for him to operate.     Ross has been another player impressing over the spring and summer. Has good length and athleticism on the wings and has been shooting the 3-ball at a better clip, while also making more aggressive downhill takes. He hit a few shots to help his team gain some momentum and will chip in tough boards and make some defensive plays that really ignite his team.     Wiggins showed a ton of improvement as a 3-point shooter last winter and he has continued to showcase his ability as one of the better two-way players in his class. He lit it up from distance in their game against [program_tooltip program_id='2378456' first='Perseverance' last='Pirates'] and filled in the gaps with his tough defense, hustle in transition, and quick decision-making in the half court. Very solid performance from the 2027 guard.
