We got out to the Metro State Camp this past weekend and there was plenty of talent on display. It was great to see players take a break from the club scene and get us closer to what they will look like during the regular season. The younger players have developed and look completely different heading into the season dn that was on display. Let's take a look at 6 underclass standouts on the weekend in the Platinum division.

Jackson is a young, promising prospect who looks better each time that we see him. This weekend, it was his time to shine as he looks like he's going to be an important piece for Kent Denver this year. He already has the size that separates him, but what I really like is his versatility, and it was on display in the two games I watched him. Jackson has a smooth shooting stroke from deep despite being a taller prospect. He hit multiple 3-pointers, hit a few clutch shots to keep Kent Denver in it, and also put the ball on the floor a bit as well, which they will need him to do. Kent Denver will be missing a ton of scoring from a season ago, and it will look completely different for them but it gives the younger guys more responsibility. Jackson is a player who I expect to make a massive leap this year, and his start to the summer should give him more on his plate to handle. Big season ahead.

Grant is a pure athlete out there who is starting to look comfortable as a player. To start Spring, it looked as if athleticism was leading the way, but he showcased skill this weekend where he's reading the floor, using screens to get to his spots, and breaking defenders down in iso for baskets. He had a few blow-by finishes that showed he could score in 1-on-1 situations. Grant also gets out on the break and attacks. He's aggressive as an off-ball guard and will be asked to be one of the team's primary scorers yet again. Knocking down shots and finding easy baskets will be a way to ensure that, and with his work on both ends of the floor this weekend, I feel confident in seeing him as another standout in the 2029 class. Grant played well, and his effort as a two-way difference-maker is refreshing.

This was my first time getting eyes on [player_tooltip player_id='3658989' first='Merrick' last='Franks'], and I liked what I saw. He's a skilled guard who, once the game slows down and settles down for him he's going to be quite the player. He showed flashes of that this weekend, where he went on scoring runs by himself. He attacks the PnR and either shoots it or gets to the rim; he can hit the 3-ball, and he also reads the court for drop-off passes. Franks is a natural scorer, and Arapahoe is going to need to put the ball in his hands. He demands so much attention that he can be a playmaker that lights it up when he's in a rhythm, but will have to trust in teammates, as it will allow him to score a bit easier as well. I liked the pace at which he played and the aggression, and he's going to be a player to watch moving forward.

Everyone knows the Braketa name and what they bring to the table. They light it up and barely miss, and you can guess what we saw from Liam — the same thing. Liam showed himself as a playmaker and facilitator in their first game on the final day, but was challenged to be more aggressive in game 2. That's when he looked at his best, and Ralston Valley is going to desperately need him to be that kind of scorer for them. He started hitting some of those deep shots we're accustomed to, which loosened up the defense and opened up the passing lanes for teammates. He then started to see the floor open up under him. I expect him to have some big games this year as he will be one of the scorers they rely on. I am expecting him to have a big role and will be a name who boosts his stock, but only if he's able to stay in attack mode. Big season for a talented player in that 2029 class.

With Chon, the size alone stands out as a guard who can battle both inside and out, and he looks varsity-ready. Grandview is going to need him to be as depth may be an issue this season. He was making the right passes, handling pressure, and he did not look out of place from a physical standpoint, which shows the growth in his game. He's one of the few players that we've seen from this Spring who looks more comfortable right now in the high school system, as he is passing and cutting away, setting screens, and rolling and shooting it once it comes to him. I am curious to see what it looks like as they give him more of a scoring load and put the ball in his hands more, as he's going to have to be one of the rotation pieces for this upcoming season. This was a stock-boosting event for him this weekend

Lucas has some "it" factor to his game. He has a mature game where he is the aggressor as a scorer. He goes right at you, he's a creative finisher down low, and he shoots it extremely well from the guard spot. Lucas doesn't need the screen to get his shot off, but he does excel in PnR situations as a decision-maker who can either dump it off or score himself. He's a three-level two-way standout who plays off the bounce, turns it up defensively to get his offense going, and we liked how he competed in the event. He's already one of the top players in the class with varsity experience, but looks to be getting even better and more comfortable as an all-around player. Solid outing from him.
