Great Lakes Region Finals: Underclassmen Point Guards Trending Up

The Prep Hoops Circuit made a pit stop in Illinois this past weekend. Over 200 teams from across the Midwest showed up to make their run at being one of the last teams standing in their respectable age brackets at the all exclusive Great Lakes Region Finals. I was in Bedford Park at the Wintrust Sports Complex taking in over 20 games through the 3 day event. Prospects in all three age divisions bought their games. In this article we will take a deeper look at some of the point guards in the classes of 2028 and 2029 who made big impacts for their teams. Let's get into it!    Watched early afternoon Saturday's game and helped team compete down to the wire. Active slashing guard that uses athleticism to score it around the rim. Makes strong cuts off the ball to retrieve it and convert. Has some finesse game as well with an up and under tough scoop vs more size. Attacks at a good rate putting on the deck and then drawing fouls to get to stripe. Confident game with playmaking ability.     Smaller frame point that gets downhill off quick first step burst which makes up for size. Watched in early evening Saturday game and he drew multiple fouls while getting to the cup and worked effectively in transition as well. Will board from the guard spot. Collected his own missed free throw to help extend possession. Defensively will jump passing lanes to create turnovers. Currently lives on agility and speed to advantage but should continue to gain traction in young career.     Combo guard that can fit into a 1 or 2 slot at this stage in career. Works cohesively well with other guard on team to initiate break and continue to speed game up. Team got off to a slow start and he helped squad climb right back into it. Was impressed with ability to find differentiating ways to the cup. Had two tough and 1 finishes in the lane and another spin move off the bounce take through traffic. Can pop for 3 as well and has a solid handle throughout. Another guard to continue to track for Glory Road Hoops.     Floor facilitator that leads with volume defensive activity and ability to create smooth offense for himself and others. Saw him compete against eventual 15U champions and he was the main factor for why team continued to stay in the game up until the middle of the second half. Generated transition opportunities with steals in the back court and a coast to coast finish. Presents good feel as a passwer with a strong back door assist and a drive and kickout to open shooters for threes. Competed against more size and athleticism the whole game with determination and will.     The whole Michigan Ignition team plays extremely hard and Warczinsky is no different. One of the smaller prospects on a team that has matured height and length for age. Defensively helped record multiple turnovers that led to fast break opportunities. In the half court setting shows strong feel as a passer with quality perimeter swings or making the extra needed. His activity level and willingness to make the right play while competing hard is what stood out the most throughout the game. Also helped team to a 2nd place finish out of 70+ teams.     Olszewski stood out in semi-final matchup with hard nosed play and willingness to compete. Really got into rhythm during second half and helped team almost secure a full comeback after being down by nearly 20. Went into attack mode consistently and fought through contact. Defensively was active to get into passing lanes to help create offense off of D. Had team high 17 and helped squad to a semi-final finish in a 60+ team bracket.
