Great Lakes Region Finals: More 2027 Impactful Watch List Guards

The Great Lakes Region Finals was back in the Chicagoland Area this past weekend for an always competitive event. PHI had all hands on deck and boots on the ground to take in all of the action. I had the great opportunity to be in Bedford Park at the Wintrust Sports Complex to checkout the 15U, 16U, and 17U divisions. The games did not disappoint as squads from every state across the Midwest showed up and showed out. In this article we will take you through a half a dozen more impactful guards who may be a bit under the radar and are worth checking in on to keep tabs. Let's dive in!    An off guard/wing that showed a scoring pop and positive activity. Watched team's first game of the weekend on Friday and he knocked down a couple spot up threes within offensive flow. Runs the floor consistently in transition. Defensively stuck with a steal and score in the back court. Guarded the other team's main ball handler with solid lateral movement.     Undersized point that makes up for it with IQ and crafty scoring ability. Has deceptive quickness off the bounce. Finished effectively at the rim in transition and in ½ court scenarios. Creates for others after getting into lane and also sticks around the glass for board purposes from guard spot. Brings solid on ball defensive pressure. Positive activity that helped team to a 3-1 finish this past weekend.     Jamerson is a compact strong combo guard that I caught twice through the weekend in team's run to championship game. Stays low to the ground on handle and will speed game up in transition. Attacks the rim effectively fitting into an off guard role and stays in aggressive mode throughout. Moves well without the ball to open floor up and create options. Underrated team oriented guy who play selflessly on both sides.     Provided plus energy for squad in late morning game on Saturday. Rebounded it from the guard location at an solid rate. Made a couple strong and tough squeezes on the defensive end in traffic. Fills lane with opportunities on the break while helping play with good pace and awareness. Overall stuck out because he bought toughness and hard work to the game in a sefless way.     Vaughn played as team's primary ball handler in late morning Saturday game but also bought scoring versatility. Provides offensive spark with a diverse skill set. Spotted up from 3 off the bounce a couple times smoothly, had strong takes to the rim, and also converted on a 17 foot fadeaway. He has an attacking mentality that provides momentum for team to work off of. Would fit in most effective as a combo guard role at next level with feel and instinct.     Another playmaker for [program_tooltip program_id='2078408' first='Team' last='Rose'] 17's who bought defensive intensity and tough decision making to opponent. Put it on the deck and got to the cup consistently with first step burst. Liked his ability to continuously be in attack mode and finish in a variety of ways. Euro step through, up and under and1, and fought through contact to get to stripe. Most impressed with passing skills. Had him down for at least a half dozen assists on kickouts or pitch a heads. An offensive generator that brings downhill pressure.
