Prep Hoops watched all six state tournament games today and offers up the game recaps now!

Tartan 72 Blaine 44.  Tartan built a double figure lead early in the game and they never looked back.  Their defensive gameplan on Blaine leading scorer Shiloh Ayitey Shiloh Ayitey Shiloh Ayitey 6'3" | PG/SG Blaine | 2026 State MN was flawless as Tartan held the talented Bengal to a scoreless first half and 3 of 12 shooting for the game.  Meanwhile, the Titans were as balanced as ever, getting 17 points from Tyrel Pride Tyrel Pride Tyrel Pride 6'1" | PG/SG Tartan | 2026 State MN , 16 from Kevin Wilson Jr. Kevin Wilson Jr. Kevin Wilson Jr. 5'10" | PG Tartan | 2028 State MN , 14 from Emmanuel Oyesanmi Emmanuel Oyesanmi Emmanuel Oyesanmi 6'4" | SF/PF Tartan | 2028 State MN , and 13 from Duke King Duke King Duke King 6'4" | SF Tartan | 2026 State MN .  Tartan held Blaine to 29 percent from shooting for the game (17 of 58) and 1 of 14 shooting from the arc. Tartan also turned Blaine over 14 times.

Chaska 71 Lakeville South 53.   Chaska won their 23rd straight game this afternoon when they defeated Lakeville South in a re-match from the South win (68-61) on December 4th.  The Chaska defense has improved immensely in the past four months allowing South only 17 makes on 50 attempts today (34 percent). Led by the 19 points and ten rebounds from sophomore Chase Maetzold Chase Maetzold Chase Maetzold 6'7" | C/SF Chaska | 2028 State MN , the Hawks dominated the glass 37-23 as well.  Maetzold and freshman Jed Keenan Jed Keenan Jed Keenan 6'4" | SF Chaska | 2029 State MN are a 6'6 frontcourt pair and they combined for 29 points plus junior point guard Tyler Forrest Tyler Forrest Tyler Forrest 6'3" | PG Chaska | 2027 State MN hit three timely three-pointers including a first half buzzer beater (Forrest had 15 points five boards and four assists).  Lakeville South junior Gavin Stuart Gavin Stuart Gavin Stuart 6'1" | SF Lakeville South | 2027 MN led the Cougars with 16 points. Chaska and Tartan will play Thursday.

Apple Valley 75 Wayzata 73.   We all remember when Eagan shocked Park Center a few years ago out of Section 3AAA…..  Today a 3AAA team performed another shocker only this time it was the Apple Valley Eagles.  Apple Valley got down 16-3 early but battled back with a great defensive effort.  They held Wayzata to 39.7 percent shooting including 4 of 22 at the arc and they had a hand in Nolen Anderson Nolen Anderson Nolen Anderson 6'7" | SF Wayzata | 2026 State #113 Nation MN 's face all game.  Anderson shot just 1 of 10 at the arc (5 of 18 shooting for the game) and the usually deep Trojans got only four baskets from their bench.  The Eagles also held Isaac Olmstead Isaac Olmstead Isaac Olmstead 5'10" | PG Wayzata | 2026 State MN to four points while getting great balance from their starting five. Five Eagles were in double figures led by the 14 points and 11 boards from Camare’ Young Camare’ Young Camare’ Young 6'5" | PF Apple Valley | 2026 State MN and 11 points and eight rebounds from Ryan Christiansen Ryan Christiansen 6'4" | PF Apple Valley | 2026 State MN .  In the backcourt Tylan Ward had ten, freshman Gio Horton Gio Horton Gio Horton 5'11" | SG Apple Valley | 2029 State MN scored 15 points and Trey Parker Trey Parker Trey Parker 6'3" | SG Apple Valley | 2026 State MN made five timely threes to score a team high 17 points. The game winning score came from Christiansen on a putback and then Parker had a game winning block at the buzzer. Christian Wiggins Christian Wiggins Christian Wiggins 6'5" | SG Wayzata | 2026 State #120 Nation MN scored a game high 27 points for the Trojans in the loss.

Maple Grove 82 Alexandria 65. Some people go to dueling piano entertainment shows.  Basketball fans went to the Target Center and saw dueling three point shooters for a while when SMSU signed Talan Witt Talan Witt Talan Witt 6'1" | PG Alexandria | 2026 State MN and NDSU signed Max Iversen Max Iversen Max Iversen 6'3" | PG Maple Grove | 2026 State MN went back and forth for a decent part of the game knocking out threes and attempts from all over. Fortunately for the Crimson, Max Iversen Max Iversen Max Iversen 6'3" | PG Maple Grove | 2026 State MN continued his run in the second half making 15 of 23 attempts and six threes for a career high 41 points and the victory. Witt had an impressive 24 point game making 4 of 5 threes but the Cardinals weren't able to keep him going at the same rate.  Maple Grove got quality help from Henry Knutson Henry Knutson Henry Knutson 6'5" | SF Maple Grove | 2026 State MN with a 14 point, ten board double-double and they will play Apple Valley on Thursday.

Goodhue 70 Perham 49.  Goodhue earned a one seed for a reason and they showed why immediately against the Yellowjackets…. Depth.  Goodhue isn't just a deep team, they are a connected team across many sports, and in many cases, across families.  They know their roles and they willingly play them to earn wins.  Luke Roschen Luke Roschen Luke Roschen 6'3" | SG/CG Goodhue | 2026 State MN can score, and he did (17 points) but his rebounding (8) and his creating (5 assists) was more important.  Owen Roschen Owen Roschen Owen Roschen 5'11" | PG Goodhue | 2027 State MN does a lot of things but in this game he defended so well (5 steals).  Alex Roos is the physically gifted prospect and he made 7 of 11 shots for 20 points and Cody Ryan Cody Ryan Cody Ryan 6'5" | SF MN made five shots and grabbed seven boards, they are sophomores.  It was an overwhelming win for Goodhue.

Albany 85 Jackson County Central 49.  This had to have been one of the least expected blowouts of state tournament history.  JCC came into state having beaten two top five teams in Morris Area and Montevideo, and they were on a roll.  Albany really put together a great season but the pair of losses to Pequot Lakes and the brand new line-up (well, four new starters) made them hard to really know.  And here came the defending champs shooting 59 percent for the game, and their defense was even better forcing 18 turnovers and 37 percent shooting. The growth of junior Jaxson Austin Jaxson Austin 6'3" | PG Albany | 2027 State MN and senior Ashton Olson Ashton Olson 6'3" | SG Albany | 2026 State MN has been fun to monitor and they were far and away the best players on the floor in this game.
