Playoff Central. [player_tooltip player_id='1601069' first='Roman' last='Voss'] led his team to a state football championship and in a battle of top ten teams yesterday, Voss scored 33 points leading Jackson County Central past last year's 3AA section champ, Montevideo. [player_tooltip player_id='1560751' first='Weston' last='Rowe'] scored 19 points in support. JCC will now play top ranked Morris Area/Chokio-Albert who won 74-44 against Minnewaska Area in the other game.

Later that night on the same floor, Central Minnesota Christian took on fellow top ten team Wabasso and earned an impressive 90-64 win. CMC gets another top ten opponent in Hills-Beaver Creek this week when they play for state.

The Big Stage. The Mayo Civic Auditorium was the place to be on Saturday with some big time match-ups. [player_tooltip player_id='2394170' first='Alex' last='Loos'] was center stage again playing hard both ways, and leading his Goodue team to an 83-71 win over top ten Triton. [player_tooltip player_id='2140680' first='Owen' last='Roschen'] had 20 for Goodhue while [player_tooltip player_id='2119578' first='Pierce' last='Petersohn'] scored a game high 38 points. In the second game Caledonia had a mild upset beating top ten Zumbrota-Mazeppa. Guard play is everything and the Warriors have it with [player_tooltip player_id='2387331' first='Grant' last='King'] scoring 26 points to lead the way.

Upset City.It wasn't that long ago that the Blake Bears were 12-12 sitting at .500. Yesterday they beat top ten ranked Holy Family 76-67 earning their fifth straight victory. Next up is a big game with Minneapolis North. Freshman Tameill White had 30 points off the bench. White is a 6'5 lefty.

Top Performances. [player_tooltip player_id='1560827' first='Kale' last='Misegades'] hit the foul shots at the end of regulation to get his top ranked Henning team to overtime to get the win over Underwood. Kale had 44 points highlighted by 20 of 21 foul shots plus he grabbed 17 rebounds for his team. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='2548240' first='Dax' last='Risbrudt'] scored 28 points for Underwood with eight losses.

In what was an absolute slug fest, Cretin-Derham Hall beat East Ridge 60-52 to move on to play Tartan and it was junior [player_tooltip player_id='2126154' first='Julian' last='Smith'] that likely had the biggest impact on the game. Before we get there, big efforts on defense from Luke Hilger and [player_tooltip player_id='1560840' first='Jason' last='Johnson'] to slow Tomes, and [player_tooltip player_id='2126094' first='Ty' last='Schlagel'] hit some key shots late, but Smith's five threes were massive for the Raider win.

Prior Lake knocked off Chanhassen 73-54 with a great team effort. [player_tooltip player_id='2459951' first='Colton' last='Gunderson'] had 19 points and 17 boards, [player_tooltip player_id='2433515' first='Kolby' last='Thompson'] had a huge stretch of jumper makes in the second half scoring 18 points, and [player_tooltip player_id='2126466' first='Kobby' last='Sambrew'] finished with 16 points and nine boards.

Tip of the Hat to the Career. East Ridge, Eden Prairie, and Triton were all the likely underdogs so the seasons of [player_tooltip player_id='1560882' first='Cedric' last='Tomes'], [player_tooltip player_id='1560851' first='Hamze' last='Yusuf'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2119578' first='Pierce' last='Petersohn'] coming to a close was not a big surprise, but still quite noteworthy.

Tomes had a rough shooting game against CDH leading to the Raiders moving on but Tomes did a fantastic team as the main playmaker and scorer for an East Ridge team that finished with a better season than expected. Tomes will play for the Gophers.

Yusuf also had a tough final shooting game as Eden Prairie wasn't able to stay with the top ten ranked Chaska Hawks. This does not take away from the great season Hamze had pushing him up the prospect list and making the Eden Prairie guard one of the top unsigned players in the state.

And Petersohn. I will say it again, he is a way better basketball player than people know. He could play D1 hoops next season with the shot that he has developed and the athletic abilities he has. Pierce of course is an outstanding football future with a chance at the NFL, so Virginia Tech football is the route that makes sense, but Pierce is a great hooper that led Triton to a better year than expected.
