The final day of the South Carolina High School Basketball Season began with the Class A State Championship Game between C.A. Johnson and Bethune-Bowman. These were two of the most dominant teams in the class all season long, making for a worthy title fight. It didn't seem that way in the first quarter, because the Hornets threw a heavy first punch thanks to back-to-back dunks from [player_tooltip player_id='3147253' first='Javarious' last='Wyche'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2673795' first='Aissacc' last='Germany']. They combined for 18 points in the quarter, plus Germany had 9 rebounds and 3 steals over the first eight minutes. [player_tooltip player_id='2211021' first='Terrance' last='McFadden'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3547749' first='Jaedon' last='Bell'] were able to get theirs in the first half, so despite allowing 23 points off 18 turnovers, the Mohawks were within striking range headed to the locker room. [player_tooltip player_id='2149135' first='Milton' last='McCray'] hit a quick right-wing three early in the second half, but it continued to feel like McFadden and Germany were cancelling out offensively. Then, after C.A. Johnson turned to their bench unit with a 16-point lead, Bethune-Bowman made their first big run. They won the final three and a half minutes 9-0, holding the Hornets without a point for the longest stretch of the day. McFadden and Bell were huge during that stretch, but Kejuan Guinyard also proved he could be a player the Mohawks counted on. The lead would remain in the 10-14 range for the first chunk of the fourth quarter, until McFadden and Guinyard again stepped up with huge buckets. Bethune-Bowman chiseled the deficit down to as little as three with just over 1:30 to play, before Germany, Wyche, McCray, and [player_tooltip player_id='1848632' first='Tony' last='Odom'] had enough and finished the job.
