Ames, a senior out of Camden Hills, ended the season as Maine's Mr. Basketball after leading his team to the Class A championship game. The state's top scorer, Ames played with a combination of size, strength, skill, and athleticism that was unmatched in Maine this winter. He could get his team 30 on any given night, but also showed the ability to create in bunches as a facilitator and to clean up on the glass. He was the ultimate competitor and someone who continued to improve and add elements to his game year after year. The all-time leading scorer at Camden Hills, he'll stay in the state next year when he continues his playing career at Colby College.

James, a senior out of Windham, wrapped up his career by proving to be the state's top lead guard. A two-time state champion, he was maybe the most clutch player in the state and did a great job of balancing his scoring and playmaking responsibilities. His quick first step and creativity around the rim made him hard to defend, while his vision and quick decision making led to a lot of easy baskets for his teammates. Beyond that, he was one of the top steals creators in the state.

Watkins, a freshman out of Cheverus, didn't disappoint upon making his long-awaited debut at the high school level. The 6'3" wing is a terrific athlete that plays with a high two-way motor, which is part of how we was able to become a nightly 20-20 threat. A big time competitor, his ability to finish with athleticism and through contact around the rim, while also developing his perimeter jumper, made him one of the state's toughest covers. You could also argue that their was no one better in transition and no one opposing defenses wanted to see less getting downhill with the ball in their hands.

Jeffers, a junior out of Fort Kent, was Mr. Clutch during the postseason after being the top player in Class C during the regular season. A plus athlete, the 6'3" wing was a tough cover for opposing defenses, capable of getting to his spots off the bounce and elevating above the defense as a scorer. He was another prospect that could fill up the stat sheet, creating scoring opportunities for his teammates and rebounding it at a high rate on both ends of the floor. He impressed with his ability to score it in isolation situations and ability to make winning plays that didn't always show up in the box score.

Maiwen, a senior out of Edward Little, took his game to another level this winter and in doing so, became one of the top overall players in the state. A twitchy athlete with plus length, he was elite in the open floor both as a finisher and as a creator. He was a disruptive defender, both at the point of attack and in passing lanes, and proved capable of both rebounding and blocking shots when coming from the help side. His quickness allowed him to get to the rim as a scorer, but he also showed the ability to make tough shots in the mid-range and from behind the arc on his way to being a 20.0 point per game scorer.

Laverdiere, a junior out of Monmouth Academy, capped off a terrific playoff run with a 30 point performance in the state title game. The 6'2" guard plays with a great feel for the game and is the type of player that can get a "quiet" 20 points every night. He's efficient as a scorer, does a nice job of getting his baskets within the flow of the offense, and typically makes good reads with the ball in his hands. He does a nice job of rebounding on the defensive end of the floor and is a high level playmaker in transition. He'll be on the short list for Player of the Year heading into next winter.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

[player_tooltip player_id='2969341' first='Carter' last='Brathwaite']: A freshman out of Cony, the 6'3" guard burst onto the scene this winter and emerged as one of the state's top scoring guards. He averaged over 20.0 points per game while leading Cony to an 18-2 record and was a threat to fill up a box score any time he took the floor.

Harry Louis: A senior out of Valley, the 5'11" guard led his squad to the Class S title this winter while wrapping up a terrific high school career. He was capable of going for 20+ on any given night and proved to be someone who didn't shy away from the big moment. His ability to make plays, not just for himself, but also for his teammates, is a big reason that Valley was so successful this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='3562018' first='Mason' last='Nguyen']: A senior out of Medomak Valley, the 6'3" guard emerged as one of the top performers in the state this winter, filling up the stat sheet and helping his team win a lot of games. He's a bigger guard that was able to score it at multiple levels, created for his teammates, and defended multiple positions all while averaging over 20.0 points per game. He'll continue his playing career next year at the University of Maine at Farmington.

[player_tooltip player_id='2969380' first='Quinn' last='Pelletier']: A freshman out of Madawaska, the 6'5" forward followed up an impressive 8th grade season with a standout year this winter. He's a tough cover for opponents due to his combination of size and skill, while also being comfortable playing at his own speed with the ball in his hands. His ability to rebound it defensively and then make a play in transition made him one of the most versatile forwards in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id='3043278' first='Rajon' last='Reed']: A junior out of Bangor Christian, the 6'3" guard was the Class D Player of the Year and stood out as a playmaker that could create havoc on both ends of the floor. Bigger and stronger than most guards, but quicker than most forwards, he presented plenty of mismatch issues on the offensive end of the floor. He's a big time scorer that has taken his game to another level each of the past two winters.
