Ames, a senior out of Camden Hills, ended the season as Maine’s Mr. Basketball after leading his team to the Class A championship game. The state’s top scorer, Ames played with a combination of size, strength, skill, and athleticism that was unmatched in Maine this winter. He could get his team 30 on any given night, but also showed the ability to create in bunches as a facilitator and to clean up on the glass. He was the ultimate competitor and someone who continued to improve and add elements to his game year after year. The all-time leading scorer at Camden Hills, he’ll stay in the state next year when he continues his playing career at Colby College.

Ames, a senior guard out of Camden Hills Regional High School, recently became his school’s all-time leading scorer. Any conversation of the state’s top scorers has to start with Ames, who’s averaging nearly 25 points per game this winter. The Colby commit is bigger and stronger than most guards he faces, has the athleticism to finish plays above the rim in space, and has a deep bag as a finisher around the rim. His ability to score it at all three levels is second to none in Maine and his compete level is always noticable. He’s done a nice job of developing the consistency of his perimeter jumper and is a threat to score from behind the arc both off the bounce and in catch and shoot situations.

Ames plays in northern Maine against iffy competition, but he puts up ridiculous numbers and passes the eye test with flying colors. The 6-foot-2 guard has absolutely no offensive weakness—he can pass, dribble, shoot, and finish—and he’s willing to do all the little things his team needs him to do to win (like sprint the floor, rebound, defend, etc.) even though he’s the star player and is also tasked with lots of offensive creation and scoring. Colby College got an ABSOLUTE steal, and my prediction is that he’ll play a lot of minutes for them next season.

Ames, a senior wing out of Camden Hills Regional High School, is arguably the top prospect in Maine this winter. The 6’2″ wing is an elite scorer of the basketball, capable of getting buckets in transition or in the half-court, from all three levels. He’s physically strong, has above the rim athleticism, and can make plays for himself and others with the ball in his hands. He’s a versatile defender and plus rebounder that impacts games on both ends of the floor.

Ames, a member of the XLP 2026 squad, is a high scoring guard out of Camden Hills in Maine. At 6’3″, he displays an impressive combination of positional size, athleticism, and strength. He finishes well around the rim, making plays through contact, and showing creativity to finish plays over size. He has good burst off the bounce, uses his size to his advantage as a passer in the half-court, and has clean and repeatable mechanics on his perimeter jumper. He is hard to guard in transition and when he gets downhill in the half-court, and, on top of that, shows an impressive ability to create space with the bounce in isolation situations.

Ames, a guard out of Camden Hills, checks into the rankings at #145, climbing 11 spots since our last update. Arguably the top public school prospect in Maine, he was one of the top scorers in the MPA this winter and continued to stand out on the spring travel circuit. A plus athlete, he’s comfortable with the ball in his hands, showing the ability to score at all three levels, and doing some of his best work around the rim. He has a quick first step, plays with a fair amount of strength, and does a nice job of keeping his dribble alive to get to his spots. Defensively, he does a nice job of rebounding in space and isn’t afraid to sit in a stance and defend on the perimeter. He’ll run with XLP this summer and is a must watch prospect for D3s in New England, and maybe even some D2s.

Ames is underrated purely as a result of living in Maine and not playing for a shoe team. The 6-foot-2 combo guard is a lot more athletic than people think he is and does literally everything on the basketball court. Offensively, he can pass, dribble and shoot and has a good feel for offensive movement both with and without the ball. Defensively, he’s a workhorse who can guard multiple positions and will fight his behind off in the paint against larger mismatches. Ames is going to have a monster senior season at Camden Hills, but I think his real opportunity to jump on the scene is if he does a postgrad year at a prep school in 2027. I see high D3 or D2 hoops in his future.

Ames was everywhere on the court when I watched XLP play. On multiple possessions, he contested shots at the rim and then was the first one down the floor for transition buckets – he works super hard and always competes. Offensively, he’s quite skilled; he has a good outside shot but can also use his handle to drive to the rim and finish with contact. He’s also a really nice passer who sees the game at a high level. Everything he does out there exudes “coach’s dream.” He could be a scholarship player or have an excellent D3 career — and don’t sleep on his athleticism.
