We all know who fills up the box score each time out. The leading scorers, the names that jump off the stat sheet. But winning basketball is built on more than scoring. It's built on the guys who do the dirty work, set the tone, and keep the team steady when things get chaotic. The engines for their team. The pairs that impact winning in ways numbers can't explain. Here are the top glue guy duos in the 6A/5A Centennial League.

Barnett has stepped up this year and has looked like one of the most important pieces for a Creek team that has shown that they could make a deep playoff push. He's been one of the toughest players in the conference, and he gives them an identity. He competes on both ends of the floor, and the 6'5 forward is also an interchangeable piece who scores in bunches, battles for rebounds, and makes his impact defensively. He's playing extremely well as we've gotten into league play. He's a two-way force who is the glue guy for the team, and he can help his team make that push.

Birkans is a 6'3 Senior for Creek who feeds off what the defense gives him. He's not a player who stands out on the scouting report, but that is what makes him so dangerous, as his role switches from each game. We've seen him as a rebounder, facilitator, and connector. He's been asked to defend players when they've gotten hot and slowed them down, and that just shows the versatility there. To start the new year, he's been in a groove, which is a reason why Creek has been rolling. He's one of the top duo X-factors in the conference and we've been keeping tabs.

Obi is a junior guard who can play both on and off the ball. He's a reliable scorer who has found an offensive zone right now and had some solid games. He's coming off a game in which he finished with 14 points. He recorded two assists, got a steal, and worked on the defensive end. We want to see him continue to make his impact on that end of the floor, be a defensive menace who can impact the game by being disruptive and helping out on the boards. He has the chops to be a difference-maker, and he's a glue guy on the team that allows Grandview to be versatile

Atkinson truly does show flashes that make him such a dynamic prospect. He has good size, elite athleticism, and once he makes his mind up he can't be stopped. It's just about doing that consistently. As his scoring has slowed down from the hot start to the season, he's found other ways to be effective. Atkinson has been a solid rebounder; he runs the floor well and finishes. In the past few games, he's been very assertive, and opponents have had to foul him where he's gotten going from the FT line. We want to keep that same aggressiveness on both ends of the floor as he's a spark who can sway games. Excited to see him return to form and put it all back together.

Cherokee Trail is having a very good season, and they have some balance this year. They have reliable guard play and big men who compete. Hopkins has brought it all season and been one of the best parts of the season. He's a glue guy and a catalyst for the team that they operate around, and he's a vital piece to the puzzle. The 6'4 forward has been all over the boards; he's set screens and rolled and backed defenders down for tough baskets. Hopkins is a strong and traditional big with soft touch around the rim; he boards out of his area and runs the floor well. He has excellent hand-eye coordination and finishes. He's up to 8.4 points and 6.6 rebounds a game and is a big reason that Cherokee Trail has been turning heads all season long. I expect a big finish to the conference for him.

Moore is a poised guard who gives the team identity, and when he's in a zone, he's a floor raiser for Cherokee Trail. Moore is the team's primary ball handler and emotional leader. He's a floor general who the team rallies behind, and he's been in an offensive flow as we get deeper in conference play while still setting the tone defensively. Moore rebounds well from the guard spot, starts the break, and gets the offense in the set when things look chaotic. Moore will be who the team looks to as we get into the conference tourney and transition into the playoff,s so I'm sure they will ride his momentum.
