Even though the holiday tournaments came and went, and despite the snow postponing several games, Delaware basketball showed out. And in the process, three teams played their hearts out. So while these may not be the three "best" or top 3 squads in the state overall, this is the trio that won the month of January:

7-1 on the month (13-1 overall), the Bucs are making waves throughout the state with [player_tooltip player_id='2935380' first='Prince' last='McKnight'] at the helm. McKnight's 17 pts/g leads the team, but it's more so his rebounding that has taken them over the top. It allows him to get the team out in transition or kick the ball out to [player_tooltip player_id='2371040' first='Michael' last='Sheehan'] who makes at least 2 threes every game. [player_tooltip player_id='2371045' first='Niquan' last='Lee Jr']. always blends his defense with playmaking, while [player_tooltip player_id='2851758' first='Jakob' last='Goldstein'] and Garrett Bohn serve as connectors. The emergence of Eisah Mincy has also been key to their recent success. The Bucs took their first L to Salesianum, but responded with notable wins over MOT Charter and, most recently, Episcopal Academy (PA).

The Senators went 7-0 in January (13-1 overall) to entrench themselves at the top of the standings Henlopen North and the State, but not without some challenges. And in each situation, a different player stepped up to give them the edge. At St. Georges, [player_tooltip player_id='2352457' first='JayVion' last='Denis'] cashed 4 threes and played disruptive defense on his way to 21 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists & 4s, while [player_tooltip player_id='2352453' first='Chase' last='Little'] gave them 20 points, 6 rebounds & 2 steals. Next, [player_tooltip player_id='2352455' first='Tarrance' last='Williams'] had a monster 21-point game to lead Dover to a come-from-behind win over Howard, in Wilmington. Then most recently at Smyrna, [player_tooltip player_id='2375232' first='Kareem' last='King'] dropped 20 points in their 4th quarter comeback. And on top of their consistent playmaking from [player_tooltip player_id='2375192' first='Kameron' last='Jackson-Dickson'], they got good minutes from [player_tooltip player_id='2519940' first='Joseph' last='Taylor'], [player_tooltip player_id='2843473' first='Troy' last='Spencer'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2519961' first='Braylon' last='Williams'].

The Colonials went through the fire, playing as tough of a schedule as anyone else over the past 30 days, and came out 5-2 (9-5 overall). The cousin duo of [player_tooltip player_id='2459417' first='Kyndal' last='Riley-Garlick'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2461961' first='Aaron' last='Whitaker'] was potent. Flirting with a triple-double on multiple occasions, Riley-Garlick's rebounding, passing and defensive playmaking served as their backbone, while Whitaker's shotmaking was the firepower they needed to outpace opponents. Other players have shown up big time in critical moments as well. Big man [player_tooltip player_id='2566663' first='Muadh' last='Johnson'] went off for 22 versus Samuel Fels (PA). The athletic [player_tooltip player_id='2606758' first='Chase' last='Simmons'] hit the game-winning free throws versus St. Georges. Further, Nysean Felton, [player_tooltip player_id='2546430' first='Caden' last='Sagers'], [player_tooltip player_id='2605860' first='Hashim' last='Batson'], [player_tooltip player_id='3456940' first='Junior' last='Dago-Dadie'] and others have made quality contributions in their own right too. No matter the pace or how they matched up with their opponents, the Colonials stayed connected and found ways to win.
