On Tuesday, Jan 20th I attended the match-up of 5A Desert Edge Scorpions hosting the 5A Canyon View Jaguars. Canyon View has a chance to make the OPEN and do well in the 5A playoffs and Desert Edge will be in the 5A playoffs.

I checked out two levels with JV and Varsity.

Here were the standouts on the night

All the stats are unofficial.

Junior Varsity Game (58-47 Canyon View won)

[player_tooltip player_id='3421209' first='Kamdon' last='Edwards'] Canyon View

A highly skilled undersized combo guard. He has a pretty looking shooting stroke from the three point line and will rattle them in one by one. He has good feel to also make a play for a teammate with advanced court vision and he can create some separation and get his shot off. He scored around 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2560322' first='KJ' last='Iten-Pauley'] Canyon View

An undersized combo guard who is a very good passer with a high feel for the game. He will score with layups in traffic and he has good hands to catch tough passes as a pick and roll finisher. He will also rebound and block shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767960' first='Jubie' last='Pitre'] Canyon View

A wing forward with a little size can score with reverse layups, he smartly cuts off the ball and he will score with perimeter jumpers from mid to the three. He also rebounds well in his area and runs the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='3421550' first='Kam'ron' last='Ford'] Desert Edge

A defensive point guard is very smooth. He will pass it up the court with his left or right hand in stride to a cutting teammate. He will score with downhill takes and hit an occasional perimeter jumper. He rebounds well in his area and he is very quick laterally to defend a couple positions.

[player_tooltip player_id='3421539' first='DJ' last='Davila'] Desert Edge

A scoring guard can fill it up. He will hit the three off the catch and he is very fast to the basket to score with tough layups. He is a natural athlete and brings speed to the court on both sides of the floor. He will score with threes off the catch and brings natural energy to the team.

[player_tooltip player_id='1763220' first='Devin' last='Sanders'] Canyon View

A scoring point guard who comes in off the bench and gives the team another sure ball handler who can handle the press and will make smart reads.
