On Thursday, Jan 22nd I attended the match-up of 3A #3 Ben Franklin Chargers hosting the 3A #15th Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles.Ben Franklin will be in the OPEN for the Copper Division and Bourgade will be in the 3A playoffs.

I checked out the Junior Varsity and Varsity games.

Here were the standouts on the night

All the stats are unofficial.

Junior Varsity Game (53-37 Ben Franklin won)

[player_tooltip player_id='3432233' first='Jase' last='Ensman'] Ben Franklin

A power forward with a plus motor. He will score it with offensive rebound put backs, transition buckets, mid-range jumpers, and-1's and he will score it effectively around the basket with either hand. He is a top rebounder in his area and will block shots in and out of his area. He scored 15+ points and most likely will start on varsity next year.

[player_tooltip player_id='3432216' first='Derek' last='Durkin'] Ben Franklin

A combo guard with a good feel for the game to make a play and scores it easily. He will drive and kick it and make some nice live dribble passes. He shoots it well from the three point line with confidence, he is good in transition and will score with mid-range jumpers. He scored around 15 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='3432159' first='Jai' last='Rushing'] Bourgade Catholic

A long and fluid power forward who plays with an incredible motor to rebound and he will block shots impressively with his twitchy reflexes and instincts. He scores it at the rim and off the glass. He will defend multiple positions and he is just scratching the surface.

[player_tooltip player_id='3432220' first='Noe' last='Hernandez'] Bourgade Catholic

A live bodied wing forward. He can play from inside and out and gets downhill and will step out and shoot the three. He scores it off the glass with a nice motor and although he is a little raw, he has physical tools you can't teach. He scored 6-10 points.

Varsity Game (55-51 Ben Franklin won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2333014' first='Brody' last='Hansen'] Ben Franklin

A wing forward, who plays bigger than his size suggests, plays a lot of the post position for the undersized team. He is a very good rebounder who is efficient inside. He will score with rip thrus to the basket and contested layups. He collects steals and gets deflections. He corralled 7+ rebounds and scored 14 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='3217638' first='Nate' last='Lot'] Ben Franklin

A scoring combo guard who is very quick on the ball defensively. He keeps his opponents in front of him and rebounds well in his area. He made some huge threes off the catch in this outing when it was a very tight game and brings some confidence to the court. He finished with 9 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533653' first='Bennett' last='Christensen'] Ben Franklin

A pure point guard makes the game so easy for his teammates. He will throw up the court ropes and the ball gets out of his hands so quickly straight into his teammates shooting pocket as he slices thru the defense. He will collect steals with his quicker hands, score with cuts off the ball and had 5+ assists with 3 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2249646' first='Talan' last='Speir'] Ben Franklin

The three sport standout can defend nearly every position on the floor. He was attacking the basket most of the night. He will cut off the ball for scores or gets trips to the free throw line. He will rebound and had some eye popping blocks with 8 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2883785' first='Ethan' last='Sang'] Ben Franklin

The top team performer in this game was Sang. He had an all-around game showing off his full repertoire. He scored with ball fakes inside, offensive rebound put backs and had great pocket passes diagonally for dimes. He earned multiple trips to the free throw line and rebounded and stole the ball in some clutch moments of the game. He finished with 16 points 9 rebounds 6 assists 4 steals with 1 block unofficially.

[player_tooltip player_id='2842403' first='Malik' last='Frazier'] Bourgade Catholic

The top performer of the game belonged to the youngest. The ball is clearly on a string for him. He will drive and kick it and changes speeds well and plays at a good pace. He fills it up with threes off the catch, step backs from mid-range, pull-ups off the dribble, euro steps keeping his dribble alive amidst heavy pressure and tough contested left hand layups. He collects steals with his length and even blocks shots. He had a few assists and an impressive 20 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2884695' first='Justin' last='Rushing'] Bourgade Catholic

A good sized wing forward with athleticism. He can crossover his defender to get a step on his opponents and get downhill. He often uses driving floaters, which seems to be his sweet spot. He will fill it up with pull-up threes, euro step and threes off the catch. He scored 17 points with 5+ rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='2628063' first='Jacob' last='Banja'] Bourgade Catholic

The big man was unfortunately in foul trouble all night long but still was very productive. He has incredible size and length to corral the ball off the glass at its highest point. He scores with offensive rebound put backs and will block shots with his obvious size. He had 2 blocks 8 rebounds and 6 points in limited minutes.

[player_tooltip player_id='3432196' first='Ray' last='Shun Gasaway'] Bourgade Catholic

A thicker freshmen power forward does a lot of the dirty work for the younger team. He lives on the glass and uses his girth and stronger hands to control the glass. He scores with his left or right hand and offensive rebound put backs. He finished with 6 points 8 rebounds.
