Whenever the Wildcats needed a tough bucket, it was the hard nosed senior who stepped up and sliced his way to the rim. Sometimes it was slippery drives, with good strength, balance and foot work to snake through defenders. Or a blow by on a mismatch that was a crucial score late in the game. His paint touches also create good looks for Piedmont's quality shooters along the perimeter. Brings football toughness with savy feel to help elevate his teammates. Which got their season off on the right foot.

Hite missed a chunk of the scrimmage season with an injury, but was back and had his finger prints over the win. Multifaceted guard, who helped the offense with good, unselfish passing. Especially in the fourth. Was quieter as a scorer, but picked his spots with mid-range, catch and shoot and even drawing fouls after good footwork on drives. There will be bigger scoring nights for Hite, but he showed why he's been a four year varsity contributor by always finding ways to make an impact.

Opened the scoring for Piedmont with a deep triple and kept popping up throughout the game with timely threes. Including another deep one, that was a go ahead make in the fourth. Combines with fellow senior Lehman to profile as the type of shooters who can swing games. Good example of how it takes all hands on deck to win close games in December, and especially come February/March.

Early standout for the Tigers. Showed his next level level athleticism by getting loose for a transition dunk and was picking up on defense as usual. Where he really impressed was his continual improvement as a creator. Plays direct and to the point as a driver. Quick and strong downhill drives, hard to keep out of the lane. Once there he makes the right passes, leading to assists and hockey assists. Gives the Tigers a second dangerous creator. Which will be pay off throughout the season as they chase another State Tournament appearance.

After a quiet by his high standards first half, Billingsley was the driving engine for Norman in the final 16. It started on the defensive end, with good reading off situations to jump passing lanes, then race for easy points. Kept scoring tough bucket after bucket with his shifty driving style to the rim. Usually is a quality creator, but let his scoring dictate his impact on Tuesday.

It appeared that foul trouble hampered Phillips' in the first half but he was the Indians best player in the second half. His vision as a passer made a huge difference with helping the offense flow. Good passing off drives and also swinging it across court with velocity and accuracy. Was impressed with the poise he seemed to play with. Popped up with some scoring via a triple and a giant killer finish over Miami's big. Not the loudest game via production, but his impact was definitely felt. A very good sign for the developing point guard.

A classic freshman game from the promising youngster. Ended the first quarter with a nice pull up three to beat the buzzer. Then had his moments as a driver throughout. Even stepped up and took a big charge in the fourth. But as any freshman, there were some growing pains. Had a couple turnovers early, then late in the game drove into crowds and was unable to draw fouls. As he physically matures and likely stays in the gym expect those areas to be cleaned up.

Jack of all trades for the Indians. On offense he helped space the floor with a handful of threes hit. Including scores in the fourth. Had to battle down low against a taller Miami frontline. Where he held his ground at times and was willing to stand in and take a charge. There's good talent throughout the classes of the Indian roster, but the senior grit of Timmons can be an important glue piece to the team.

Sophomore sharpshooter, with college ready range. Was at his best running off screens and into his spots with smooth movement threes. Put it on the floor a little, including a transition push into a good looking elbow jumper. Had some moments as a scrappy defender, with quick hands and instincts to harras on the ball or as an off the ball helper.

The senior workhorse down low for the Wardogs. Knows his role and plays with a hardhat on. Variety of post up finishes. From sealing and scoring to quickly spinning into openings where he can use his soft touch. Had a couple face up takes as well. His decisiveness and height makes him a very tough match up in the Class 4A ranks.
